Primary Function

This conditional position instructs students at Eastern Correctional Institution on mathematical reasoning, reading language arts, science and social studies skills to prepare for the GED® Official Test to obtain their Maryland high school diploma.

Essential Duties

The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.

  • Teaches students in assigned subject area(s) with an emphasis on reasoning and problem solving in a correctional education environment
  • Guides the student learning process toward the achievement of literacy goals established in correctional education
  • Completes and checks monthly rosters, attendance and verifies College registrations
  • Manages and completes paperwork for the College, Maryland Department of Labor, Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning and the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services
  • Interfaces successfully with College, LABOR and facility personnel on various matters
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of teaching experience
  • Excellent organizational, human relations, record keeping and computer skills
  • Microsoft Office skills, especially Word and Excel
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must pass criminal background check conducted by the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services
  • Preference will be given to candidates who posses
    • Master's degree
    • Experience in workforce development and adult education

Supplemental Information

This is a temporary, contractual position. This position does not include any benefits other than subsidized employee-only coverage in the college's standard medical plan, which the employee must elect when first eligible, and must pay the employee portion of the premium to remain enrolled.
