Summary

This position is responsible for the development and general coordination of aviation programs and will teach and assist in the development of courses in the aviation programs.  Responsible for teaching courses in the program. Teaching responsibilities consist of flight-related courses such as private, instrument, commercial, multi-engine, and Flight Instructor ground schools, and other aviation courses.  Teaching through a variety of modalities, including face-to-face, online, and remote are required.  Coordinates, as necessary, with the LCCC Chief Flight Instructor for program operation. This faculty position is part of the School of Healthcare Sciences, Aviation, Mathematics and Science department and reports directly to the Dean of Healthcare Sciences, Aviation, Mathematics and Science.

Salary is restricted to above range and will not exceed the maximum of the range. Salary offers are non negotiable and offers are determined and are based upon related work experience submitted on resume.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recommends changes to the instructional programs and curricula as required.  
  • Keeps and submits appropriate academic records.        
  • Maintains academic records in accordance with college and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements.
  • Maintains instructional effectiveness by ongoing self-evaluation and incorporating current developments in instructional and learning strategies.  
  • Teaches courses in accordance with the master course outline, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved curriculum, and within the schedule of classes.  
  • Assists librarians in keeping the college collections and services current.  
  • Assists the college in keeping technology, facilities, and equipment current.  
  • Plans with the assistance of the dean to insure availability of supplies, textbooks, and classroom equipment requisite to the successful teaching of assigned classes.  
  • Maintains regular office hours, as approved by the dean, for consultation with students.  
  • Serves as faculty advisor to student organizations (voluntary).  
  • Serves as a faculty advisor to students in their program of study.  
  • Recruits students for programs of study.  
  • Participates in academic audits.  
  • Assists in preparation of budgets for submission to the dean. 
  • Assists in preparation of academic schedules for submission to Academic Services.  
  • Serves on college committees and advisory boards.
  • Where appropriate, makes recommendations to the dean or associate dean on staffing courses.
  • Works with dean and fellow faculty including adjuncts to maintain academic standards and integrity.
  • Coordinates with the Chief Flight Instructor in the hiring of adjunct instructors serving as flight instructors or ground instructors for Part 141 pilot certification courses.
  • Works with new faculty in the area.
  • Actively participates in faculty development activities.
  • In addition to college-sponsored development activities, maintains professional development and stays current in his/her field of study.
  • Maintains instructional/operational currency and familiarity with the Advanced Aviation Training Devices, smart boards and other teaching resources.
  • Works with counselors, advisors, and other college staff in responding to student needs.
  • Maintains memberships in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Shares the responsibility for establishing and maintaining a college environment that values people.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  • Keeps informed on procedures to be followed in case of emergencies.
  • Discharges those additional duties normally and customarily associated with college faculty.
  • Undertakes specialized projects or perform any duties, which may from time-to-time be assigned by the vice president, dean or associate academic dean.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Foreign degrees – must provide a US equivalency report of your degree credentials with your transcript, if not, your resume will not be accepted.

Certifications

  • Must meet the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations for Instructor as prescribed under Part 141.33(a)(3) of the FAA regulations.
  • Certified Flight Instructor/Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument (CFI/CFII) and Multi engine Instructor (MEI) or Basic Ground Instructor (BGI), Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) and Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI).
  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)
  • Must possess a minimum of one FAA type rating in an airplane.

      Work Experience

  • Must have flight instructor experience.
  • Competency with FAR Part 25, aircraft systems, engines and structures.

  • Familiarity with mission of a comprehensive community college.

PREFERRED

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Teaching experience in a community college environment is preferred, as well as experience working with       diverse populations.
  • Teaching experience using online learning management systems, CANVAS preferred.
  • Bilingual
