Position Summary Information

Position Summary
In support of the overall Learning College, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director will serve as the lead instructor, manage program logistics, assess and advise current and potential EMS students. Additionally, the director will develop and document emergency medical services classes; spearhead the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMPS) Accreditation process and serve as the American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center Coordinator.
Responsibilities
1. Serve as the director and lead instructor for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program.
2. Plan, implement and assess program and curriculum.
3. Actively promote and recruit for EMS courses and programs
4. Serve as the adviser for students enrolled in the EMS Program and as a point of contact for interested potential students
5. Coordinate with local hospitals and physicians’ offices to provide clinical opportunities for EMS students
6. Work with the Dean of Continuing Education and the Dean of Health and Public Services to identify and recruit quality instructors for EMS classes
7. Maintain current Level II administration and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Paramedic certification with the NC Office of EMS
8. Serve as the AHA Training Center Coordinator:
a. Assure regulatory compliance of training center
b. Handle the management and storage of training center records
c. Responsible for the security and distribution of course completion cards and exams to instructor
d. Serve as primary contact between the training center and AHA programs
9. Understand, follow and lead the various certification guidelines
10. Ensure a smooth transition for students articulating from the continuing education paramedic program into the Emergency Medical Sciences Bridge program.
11. Attend regional and state EMS related meetings as appropriate
12. Complete required records and reports
13. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with agencies, organizations and Isothermal Community College departments
14. Other duties as assigned

2. Possess knowledge and understanding of the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services standards

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related Healthcare field, required
2. Level II instructor and EMT-Paramedic certification with the North Carolina Office of EMS, required
3. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required

Preferred Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in EMS, preferred
2. Community College instructional experience, preferred
