Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Postdoctoral Fellow in Clinical Psychology at the Child Advocacy Center works alongside a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, case managers, child abuse pediatricians, and forensic interviewers to ensure children and families receive the appropriate care in the aftermath of child maltreatment. The fellow is supervised by Licensed Clinical Psychologists and will gain the necessary requirements for licensure in the State of Virginia.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Conducts thorough intake assessments (Mental Health Assessments) to accurately diagnose and conceptualize clients’ presenting problems in order to make well-informed treatment recommendations.
    • Carries a caseload of approximately 15 therapy (TF-CBT) clients per week. The fellow will be trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and is expected to develop appropriate treatment plans, therapeutic interventions, and documentation that reflects the unique needs of each individual, while maintaining treatment fidelity. Fellow will be trained and gain experience providing crisis and safety assessments.  Training and experience in other modalities (e.g. Parent-Child Interaction Therapy) may be an option pending fellow experience and training schedule.
    • Completes approximately one psychological assessment each month. Psychological assessments are comprehensive and trauma-informed. The fellow will gather pertinent collateral information, collaborate with referral sources, administer appropriate testing materials, and integrate data into a thorough report with in-depth, actionable recommendations.
    • Actively participates in monthly agency meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and weekly individual and group clinical supervision.  
    • Completes a postdoctoral project that is in line with the fellow’s professional interests and needs of the agency. The project may be research related, pending available ongoing projects.
    • Assists with didactics and group supervision for psychology and social work students completing practicums at the agency.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • None required.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, either Psy.D. or Ph.D., from an APA accredited program
    • Completion of an APA-accredited internship
    • Experience with providing therapy and assessment services to children and/or adolescents is required.
    • Some experience with providing therapy and assessment services to children and/or adolescents who have experienced trauma is preferred.
    • Increased Security Clearance Required for Job Roles in Medical Tower II: FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and Child Protective Services registry search.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust and temperature.
