COMPENSATION: 

Initial salary placement ranges from $55,714 to $87,247, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $116,888.  A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Teaching various courses in the Biology department, with  emphasis in general human biology.

Working with other faculty in designing new laboratory activities and revising existing laboratory activities.

Participating in program and curriculum development, student learning outcomes and assessment, as well as the department mission statement, master plan, and master plan updates.

Teaching scheduled classes and performing related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities.

Complying with District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties.

Participating in staff development activities and keeping up with the latest news and developments in the biological sciences.

Serving on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the instructional program.

Demonstrating sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.

Promoting the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.

Maintaining a visible presence on campus in order to be available to regularly and actively participate in department meetings and other activities.

Providing critical feedback on all assignments.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in any biological science OR bachelor's in any biological science AND master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) year teaching experience preferred at Community College level.
  • Ability to teach two or more of the following: Cell and Molecular, Human Biology, General Biology and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy.
Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.

Ability to interact with others (faculty, staff, students, administration)
