Funded by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), The Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) at Onondaga Community College offers a variety of support (academic tutoring, career/workforce readiness, mentoring, college prep and social/emotional support) to fit the needs of students in grades 7-12. Our goal is to ensure our students complete all the necessary requirements to eventually graduate from high school with a plan for life's next steps.


Job Description:

The Instructor for the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) will work closely with the LPP Director and LPP Coordinator to provide case management support to address the student support needs of their respective middle school and high school students. The Instructors will develop and deliver high quality student support and enrichment in the following areas: academic, career/college/workforce, social-emotional and positive holistic well-being to encourage active and applied learning. The Instructors will facilitate one-on-one and group activities to engage students in goal setting, advocacy, and applied-learning activities to foster student engagement, academic achievement, positive well-being and educational attainment for middle school and high school students enrolled in the Liberty Partnerships Program at Onondaga Community College. The Instructors will work with students to explore their post-high school plans and work with the student to gain opportunities to further their knowledge related to their interests. The Instructors will work with students to increase their career/college/workforce readiness through programming sponsored by LPP in collaboration with partner agencies/organizations. The Instructors supporting middle school students will also collaborate with the Lead Middle School Instructor to address student needs. The Instructors supporting high school students will collaborate with the LPP Director and Coordinator to assist students in their transition to their next stage in life after graduating from high school.

  • Provide daily case management oversight to middle school and high school students enrolled at their respective LPP partner middle school or high school
  • Deliver student support services to new and continuing Onondaga LPP students by actively pushing into classrooms to support students (when permitted) or meeting with students one-on-one
  • Complete Personal Learning Plan (PLP) and well-being surveys with  returning program students at the start of each academic year and at the point of enrollment for new students; review the progress/completion of identified goals
  • Coordinate with LPP Coordinator and Syracuse City School District (SCSD) staff to identify a plan for students in need of additional academic support and issues impacting student success
  • Capture time spent supporting students daily and provide weekly engagement summaries to LPP Director and LPP Coordinator detailing outreach and support provided for student reporting data required by New York State Education Department (NYSED)
  • Collect and review student progress reports/report cards with LPP staff
  • Review credit attainment each year with LPP middle school and high school students as they persist towards high school graduation
  • Explore Early College opportunities with high school students through OCC
  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of program activities
  • Maintain regular daily documentation of interactions with students and attendance of students participating in LPP sponsored events
  • Deliver assessments and surveys related to social/emotional programming, career and college interests, overall well-being
  • Assist with sponsored LPP Summer Programming and sponsored activities
  • Attend and/or chaperone LPP events and field trips which may include some evenings and weekends
  • Support the enrollment and retention goals of the Onondaga Community College LPP program
  • Attend professional development opportunities when available with LPP staff


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; previous experience teaching or providing tutoring support to students.
  • Working with middle school students from diverse backgrounds in public urban schools preferred.


Additional Information:

Applicants with a New York State Teacher Certification is a plus. Also, applicants who are retired SCSD teachers or school counselors are a plus.
