GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Teach applied piano, participate in musical preparation of an Opera production, coach/accompany vocal and instrumental students, teach theory and music appreciation depending on the needs of the department and the load of the faculty member. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: academic advising for students, maintaining office hours, participating in college committees, promoting and supporting the department's mission and goals, leading extra-curricular activities, participating in professional development activities, and working across departments to develop student communication and problem-solving skills. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include face-to-face and non-traditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. This position reports to the Division Chair, Visual & Performing Arts. NOTE:  This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

 

THE DEPARTMENT:

Music facilities consist of a 330-seat and a 100-seat performance hall, plus a 550-seat, outdoor amphitheater (Bosque River Stage), 14 practice rooms, a state-of-the-art digital recording studio, as well as faculty offices/studios and classrooms with up-to-date technology.  The department is housed in the Ball Performing Arts Center and the Music and Theatre Arts Building. There are currently 6 full-time and 12 adjunct instructors in the Transfer Music Department. In addition to an active recital schedule which includes 1-2 Steinway Series concerts, McLennan Music and Theatre Departments collaborate yearly to produce a fully staged Opera and Broadway Musical with orchestra.  McLennan Community College is an All Steinway School.


SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of: 1. Piano pedagogy. 2. Teaching to various learning styles. 3. Appropriate repertoire for first- and second-year piano students. Ability to: 4. Collaborate in recruitment/retention of piano students. 6. Maintain a successful and competitive piano studio. 7. Prepare piano majors for successful transfer into the junior level of a university. 8. Demonstrate skills useful in a piano lesson. 9. Perform solo and collaboratively with faculty. 10. Develop working relationships with area music faculty, network with regional piano teachers, and other music professionals. 11. Use appropriate technology. 12. Advise students. 13. Provide leadership for student participation in music organizations 14. Work collaboratively within and across departmental lines. 15. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office setting.  At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master’s degree in Music from an accredited college or university.

Experience:  Teaching experience at the college/university level.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Earned Doctorate degree in Music from an accredited college or university.
