Class Description

The purpose of this class is to perform administrative and technical work in support of the College’s computing and/or network infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

Actively pursuing an Associates degree in an IT related field at CCBC or graduated/transferred within the past semester. Must have and maintain at least a 2.5 grade average. Knowledge of operating system installations, security concepts, networking concepts and/or server configuration preferred. 

Class Specific Essential Duties

At the direction and oversight of the Senior Systems Engineer:

  1. Perform server and virtual machine reviews, prepare reporting, and provide end user assistance for systems initiatives.  
  2. Perform installation, configuration, administration and maintenance of server related hardware, software and appliances.  
  3. Conduct security risk assessments, incident response, and remediation.
  4. Configure and setup various server environments used for academic learning.
  5. Provide support and system maintenance for college owned server systems including, but not limited to, Dell hardware, VMware, Microsoft Windows Server and Linux.  
  6. Assist with the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of supporting systems appliances including, but not limited to DNS, syslogging, and monitoring systems. 
  7. Provide support to the user community, particularly in regards to server problem remediation reported through the Blackboard ticketing system.
  8. Conduct maintenance tasks as directed.
  9. Document and monitor various systems for changes that could affect operability.  
  10. Evaluate, test and prototype new hardware and software.
  11. Ensure that all servers are robust and redundant allowing faculty to fulfill their teaching requirements.

  • Tax-sheltered annuities – 403(b). Payroll salary reduction authorization is needed.  The form is available on SharePoint Forms/Human Resources Forms.
    The 403(b) supplemental retirement plan is available to all CCBC employees (Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees).
  • Roth 403(b) is a savings feature that is available when you open a 403(b) account. The Roth 403(b) savings feature allows employees to contribute after-tax dollars and then withdraw tax-free dollars from their account upon retirement. The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors:  TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc.  Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature.  Employees may contribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
  • Deferred Compensation Plan — 457(b) offered through VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. The 457(b) salary reduction authorization form is needed. The form is available on SharePoint Forms/Human Resources Forms.
Parking
Free. Must obtain a parking permit from the Department of Public Safety to use on all campuses.
