Class Description

The purpose of this position is to support students from entry through successful goal completion to include credentialing, graduation and transfer by effectively carrying out strategic goals and objectives. Located on the Catonsville, Dundalk and Essex Campuses.  Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field.  Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.  

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required,  in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Development, Public Policy, Public Administration preferred, and Master’s degree preferred. Three (3) years of full time experience working in student services required, preferably in a community college. Knowledge of general transfer processes, procedures and requirements required. Experience with Maryland’s articulation system (ARTSYS), transcript and/or portfolio review is preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Use cognitive skills to: solve problems, develop, plan and implement short and long-range goals, and organize work or assigned projects.
  2. Disseminate information on CCBC policies, services and procedures to faculty, parents and students etc; specifically maintain a working knowledge of FERPA, COMAR and MHEC regulations.
  3. Assess transcripts and give preliminary unofficial assessment of transfer credits to determine placement.
  4. Establish processes for systematic tracking of student academic progress.
  5. Collect and evaluate data and provide follow-up interventions including the preparation of special reports, as required.
  6. Collaborate with others in design of workshops and presentations, including professional development for targeted departments and functional units, including faculty.
  7. Establish metrics, in collaboration with others, to track student progress.
  8. Provide leadership in design of a collaborative system for referrals to both internal and external resources and services to support student’s educational planning.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Assume responsibility for promoting a positive and successful experience by engaging students from entry through progression of degree completion and, if applicable, transfer.  
  2. Proactively connect students with departments and college resources to create solutions for at-risk students and those facing academic, personal, and social difficulties. 
  3. Maintain close working relationship with academic advisement leadership to design supportive services and programs for students planning to transfer to a 4-year partner institution.
  4. Assist students by connecting them to resources, developing action plans to meet their goals, and by helping them navigate complex and challenging situations.
  5. Maintain information regarding student appointments, alerts, progress surveys, and other necessary information adhering to data integrity standards. 
  6. Works directly with College Life staff to support, guide and empower students through their first year to build the formation for continued success and development of skills necessary to be advocates for themselves. 
  7. Collaborates with faculty, academic advisors, case managers, and others to identify and provide intervention support for students identified through the early alert system.
  8. Develop personal and collaborative relationships with students by maintaining regular contact through use of multiple communication platforms to provide coaching around academic programs and support to keep students connected with campus resources.
  9. Leverage data analytics to proactively support students who may be displaying at-risk factors.
  10. Participate in prospective student recruitment events, pipeline programs, new student orientation sessions, staff meetings, and student community engagement events.
  11. Assumes responsibility for executing intentional and evidence-based programs, policies, and procedures to support student success and retention.
  12. Contribute to a culture of degree completion prior to transfer.
