Position Title: Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
Job Class: Full-time Hourly/Non-Exempt; $26-31/hour
PIs: Nicole Liachko, PhD

Summary: A postdoctoral research position is available in the Liachko lab located at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Seattle, and affiliated with the University of Washington (https://sites.google.com/prod/uw.edu/liachkolab). We use model systems including transgenic mice, mouse primary neurons, cultured cells and C. elegans, to study the neurodegeneration seen in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and other aging related disorders.  We are seeking a motivated post-doctoral fellow who works well with others to join our research team. The fellow will pursue the underlying causes of aging associated protein dysfunction in neurodegenerative disease using transgenic C. elegans and/or mouse models. 
  
Requirements:  A PhD in the biomedical science, the ability to fulfill responsibilities listed below, and eligibility and willingness to apply for external postdoctoral funding including T32/F32 NIH training grants or other independent funding sources. 

Knowledge/ Skills necessary:

  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of genetics and/or neurobiology
  • Ability to design and execute controlled experiments
  • Effective communication with internal and external researchers
  • Reporting of research findings
  • Aptitude for effective scientific writing

Desirable Experience/Skills:

  • Familiarity with transgenic mice and/or C. elegans
  • Experience with cell culture, microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and immunoblotting.
  • Bioinformatics including transcriptomic analyses
  • Competence in microbiology and molecular cloning
