Summary

Illinois Central College is seeking a qualified individual to provide innovative instruction in English composition. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developmental English, Transitional English, and/or dual-credit English. The English faculty member is primarily responsible for providing instruction and coordinating. Additional assignments may include courses in subfields of English per faculty qualifications.



There are 2 vacancies for this position. The initial review of applications will begin the first week of March. 



Essential Functions

  1. Maintain the highest possible standards of English accreditation and education. 
  2. Prepare content lesson plans to adhere to program curricular framework and threaded concepts. 
  3. Coordinate classroom teaching and learning activities and conduct assessment strategies for assigned class. 
  4. Assess student learning outcomes and evaluate program outcomes. 
  5. Gather, document, and analyze student assessment results for the program assessment plan.  
  6. Seek professional development to remain current with education, workforce trends, and emerging technology. 
  7. Maintain skills through professional development, continuing education, and scholarly activities appropriate to higher education and discipline. 
  8. Collaborate effectively with full-time and adjunct faculty members. 
  9. Serve actively on college, department, and program committees. 
  10.  Participate actively in student recruitment and academic advisement activities. 
  11. Support college-wide initiatives and actively participate in organizational meetings. 
  12. Perform assigned responsibilities during the day, evening and/or weekend on any campus.
  13. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
 
  • Master's degree in English or master's degree in any discipline plus 18 graduate credit hours in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching transfer-level English Composition, developmental reading and writing,  co-requisite or accelerated courses, and/or teaching writing within the context of particular industries, disciplines, or academic fields is preferred.
  • Ph.D. in relevant academic discipline also desirable. 
  • Community college experience.
  • Online teaching experience. 
  • Corequisite experience.
