Occupational Summary

The Veterinarian Assistant Instructor will teach the didactic and laboratory component of a curriculum designed to help students build knowledge and skills intended to assist in various settings, including basic grooming and handling skills. This job requires flexible hours; days, nights and possibly weekends.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares and teaches the curriculum in accordance with course syllabus and the published course schedule
  • Coordinates all instructional activities to ensure an educational continuum between didactic and lab environment
  • Evaluates and documents students' progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained
  • Documents program and student learning outcomes for didactic, and skills simulation lab experiences
  • Maintains regular, ongoing, and effective communication relevant to activities of veterinarian assistant students, with students, staff, coordinators, clinical administrators, division dean, and prospective employers
  • Assists with preparation, review, and update of course syllabi
  • Maintains accurate records on all students, including but not limited to attendance records, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content
  • Provides a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and concepts of good client/patient care
  • Promotes the mission of the Community College and the Healthcare Programs in a positive manner with all staff, participants and partners, and a consistent exchange of information in a transparent and collaborative environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Current certification or equivalent training documentation as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician

Two (2) years' of relevant work experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Technician

Preferred:

Two years of relevant teaching experience

Knowledge of education technology including online delivery

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform physical work with students in a class/lab/clinical setting 

Must possess the ability to work with students from different socioeconomic and educational backgrounds
