Description

As a component of the Office for Finance, the Coordinator, Student Financial Services position provides high-quality accounting support services to faculty, staff, and students. These services are provided in accordance with the rules of the College, the laws of the State of Florida, and the rules and regulations of other jurisdictions.

The Coordinator, Student Financial Services position is responsible for recommending, implementing, and managing approved student financial control procedures and processes to ensure compliance with college rules, the laws of the State of Florida, and the rules and regulations of other jurisdictions including Federal and State Student Financial Aid. This position requires the application of generally accepted accounting principles to a variety of fiscal transactions. This position must perform duties that include exercising professional judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures. Knowledge of principles and practices of accounting and federal student aid is preferred to ensure reliable information is provided to the college community, Board of Trustees, state agencies, and other external sources. An understanding of internal operations of the college along with internal policies and procedures that effect the department are essential.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide superior student-oriented customer service both with internal and external constituencies.
  • Ensure transactions are in accordance with all rules and regulations pertinent to Student Financial Services, which will require through attainment of knowledge of Student Accounts and Cashiering functions.
  • Monitor Student Accounts receivables to ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date records as well as analyze delinquent account data. 
  • Coordinate the follow-up on deferment of tuition and fee programs to ensure that payments are received on schedule.
  • Perform due diligence on delinquent accounts, up to and including referring accounts to the college's collection agencies.
  • Record and reconcile various loans, grants, and scholarships.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies within student financial accounts and general ledger departments ensuring follow-up and timely resolution.
  • Provide resolution to various student accounting issues and/or complaints, dealing directly with students, pertaining to student financial accounts.  Working closely and collaboratively with the Financial Aid department, Records Office, Office for Finance staff and various Student and Academic Affairs departments.
  • Prepare, process, and complete account journal entries. 
  • Perform general cashiering duties as a backup.
  • Assist with preparing various fiscal reports regarding fee waivers and annual write-off information.
  • Assist Bursar in various areas such as data compilation, financial analysis, and 1098T processing.
  • Assist Bursar in managing student financial service operations that include, fiscal oversight, development of cash handling policies/procedures/processes and internal controls.  Ability to travel between site locations.
  • Assist Bursar in planning and implementing system/procedure improvements for student accounts and cashier accounting systems.
  • Provide assistance to departments and auditing authorities during the auditing process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:  A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Business, Accounting, Finance, Financial Management) and two years of experience with financial services, or a combination of completed education/related experience equal to six years.

Additional Requirements:  Supervisory experience and extensive computer experience, including spreadsheet knowledge, is required. A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred:  Knowledge of student financial services processing and general accounting. Experience working in financial services with an institution of higher education.
