Position Summary

The Housing Coordinator, under the direct supervision of the Dean of Student Services, provides overall management of the student residence halls at Coastal Alabama Community College and in will adhere to the guidelines as specified by the College Policy Manual and the Board of Trustees.


Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule C3 2. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:

 

  1. Develops and delivers all correspondence regarding student housing.
  2. Provides leadership for a positive residence hall community.
  3. Fosters a friendly, safe, secure, and clean environment that encourages student development.
  4. Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of residence hall educational and social programming
  5. Acts as a liaison for the College with students and parents.
  6. Maintains a cooperative relationship with campus police, residence hall security, local fire departments and police agencies.
  7. Schedules regular residence hall fire and safety drills as required by college, state and federal policies.  
  8. Regularly participates in campus events including speaker events, and late night and weekend events.
  9. Assists in the recruitment, selection, placement, and evaluation of Resident Assistants (RAs).
  10. Supervises the Housing staff and RAs in two residence halls. 
  11. Provides regular and timely support for RAs by holding meetings and maintaining contact with RAs and devising training programs for RAs.
  12. Provides appropriate response to student concerns and behaviors including crisis situations, behavioral concerns, and student conflicts including referrals for college disciplinary matters.
  13. Supervises building opening and closing at the beginning and ending of each academic year, scheduled break period and summer term.
  14. Maintains an accurate inventory of all keys, equipment, supplies, and furniture within the residence halls.
  15. Effectively collaborates with the Facilities Office for the upkeep of the building through maintenance and custodial repairs and ensures their completion in a timely manner.
  16. Prepares all required reports, records and evaluations promptly and accurately as assigned.        
  17. Advises the Supervisor and participates in the budget process for the residence halls. 
  18. Processes and maintains residence hall contracts, dorm damages, refunds, and withdrawal forms on behalf of the Dean of Student Services. 
  19. Processes and maintains student housing applications and records. 
  20. Represents the Housing Office in Community Standards and Policies Violation (CSaP) processes on behalf of the Dean of Student Services. 
  21. Makes calls related to, but not limited to, enrollment, housing application status, current resident, checkup.
  22. Develops and participates in an on-call rotation schedule to supervise residence halls including but not limited to: on-campus presence during the 24 on-call rotations; and providing immediate response as appropriate and/or promptly referring residents to appropriate campus resources in areas of conflict resolution, academic issues, personal or disciplinary problems. 
  23. Evaluates and ensures the quality of outsources janitorial services in the residence halls. 
  24. Serves as the campus backup to the Housing Specialist as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Three years of related work experience.
  3. The ability to cover 24-hour on campus on call rotations, including weekend coverage.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  5. Highly motivated, energetic and ready to assume the responsibility of a college residence life center.
  6. Able to promote and motivate high enthusiasm for the residence life program. 
  7. Must have an appreciation for the relationship between the academic and residence life programs at a college.
  8. Experience and commitment to working with college students from diverse backgrounds.
  9. Must be able to multi task and meet deadlines.
  10. Must possess basic computer skills. 
  11. Ability to submit and maintain a budget.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  1. Supervisory experience.
  2. Prior experience in development and operation of residence hall.
  3. Experience in a community college setting.

All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.  Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control.   The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.  The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.  The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.  

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:
  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
