The Academic and Career Achievement Program (ACAP) at South Arkansas Community College is designed for individuals who have intellectual or developmental disabilities, and who can benefit from the community college experience. Our mission is to empower individuals to live, work, and learn in the social fabric of our community. The objectives of the program are to enable students, while in a supportive college environment, to transition into greater and enhanced independent living through developmentally appropriate vocational, social, life, and academic skills. Students learn how to meet daily challenges confidently and independently, and become productive citizens in the community. The ultimate goal of the ACAP program is to allow students with special needs to have an inclusive college experience, all while preparing for gainful employment after graduating from the program. This position is charged with both administration and instruction for the ACAP program.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise extra help instructors and/or other departmental employees as appropriate

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Develop, implement, and manage program curricula to teach ACAP students workplace and life skills and results in job placement opportunities
* Provide classroom instruction
* Coordinate supplemental instructional environments
* Advocate to ensure students are provided quality education according to their needs and goals
* Recruit and retain students
* Further develop and revise administrative policies and procedures
* Maintain student records
* Engage community, business, and education partners to create and maintain student internships
* Manage program expenses and departmental budget
* Inform students of financial aid deadlines and assist in completing the application
* Ensure students follow AMP guidelines for payment of tuition
* Seek out grant opportunities to help with program growth
* Collaborate with other South Arkansas Community College departments and instructors to provide field experiences for the students related to hospitality and tourism and retail career pathways
* Be an active part of the SouthArk community including committee work, special projects, and campus involvement

* Demonstrated ability to interact with individuals at all levels

Required Education and Experience:

* Professional experience in serving people with disabilities (business, education, agency related, etc.)
* Knowledge of current ADA laws and guidelines
* Bachelor’s degree in education, business, or a related field from a regionally-accredited institution

Preferred Education and Experience:

* Demonstrated experience utilizing collaborative learning and student-driven curricula, as well as social interdependence approaches to learning
* Experience reviewing confidential ADA records such as IEPs, 504 Plans, psychological assessment results, physician records, etc.
* Experience in providing or assisting others with ADA accommodations based on functional limitations, appropriateness, and approvals
* Valid State of Arkansas Educator License
