Job Summary
Provides group tutoring to students who are enrolled in ASL 1010 and 1020 courses. May also provide one-on-one conversational tutoring to ASL and ASL/English Interpreting students.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Converse in ASL with ASL and ASL/English Interpreting students in a one-on-one setting.
2. Tutor ASL and Interpreting students in the proper use of ASL signs, classifiers, and grammar in 30-60 minute sessions.
3. Tutor ASL 1010 and 1020 students in a small group setting during weekly ASL lab sessions.
4. Maintain records of tutoring sessions and student lab attendance.
5. Maintain a schedule using online language lab tutor schedule.
6. Attend staff and training meetings as directed by the ASL/I Specialist 1.
7. Attend ASL club meetings and activities to converse with ASL students as directed by the ASL/I Specialist 1.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
Minimum Qualifications
High school Diploma or GED.
Native or near-native ASL proficiency.
Non-native ASL users must have received an A or B grade in ASL 2020 or pass a proficiency interview with ASL faculty.
Preferred Qualifications
Tutor Certification preferred.
Previous work as an ASL tutor.
Previous ASL teaching experience.
Native ASL user.
