Description

Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks a Director for Development - Individual Giving to focus on the individual donor relationships in the foundation. This position is responsible for leading and managing all facets of the individual giving process including donor research, outreach, and acquisition to maintain and secure gifts both annual and major donors. This position is responsible for developing and managing donor strategies in alignment with the strategic priorities of the department. The Director will be responsible for identifying prospects, cultivating donors, developing donor proposals and ensuring appropriate follow-up and stewardship. The Director works collaboratively with colleagues on the foundation team, campus leadership, academic deans, faculty, Foundation board members and other primary and natural partners to cultivate purposeful relationships with donors and implement effective solicitation strategies. This position requires a high level of interaction with donor constituencies to establish a strong base of support. This position reports to the Executive Director/CEO of the CBC Foundation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit a pool of prospects, and serve as prospect manager; 
  • Maintain a portfolio of 100-125 individual donors with emphasis on moving them through the fundraising cycle; 
  • Spend at least 60% of time /effort in the field with a monthly expectation of 10-15 visits per month focusing on donor discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship;
  • Collaborate closely with other Foundation staff, as well as primary, natural, and College partners to develop and implement strategies that are consistent with College priorities and donors' interests;
  • Participate in CBC’s Planned Giving efforts including donor identification, information and follow up;  
  • Oversee stewardship of a high-quality donor experience through correspondence, donor engagement, professional proposals, mailing and acknowledgements; 
  • Under the supervision of the Executive Director/CEO of the CBC Foundation, prioritize and manage activities for fundraising opportunities, including development of funding proposals; fundraising visits, activities, and events;
  • Lead efforts for annual and endowed scholarship donors including cultivation, stewardship and when necessary renewal; 
  • Ensure that gift agreements are established in compliance with IRS regulations and the Foundation’s Gift Acceptance Policy; 
  • Manage and provide support to the Foundation Scholarship Committee as well as participate in the Foundation Gift Acceptance and Planned Giving Committee; 
  • Plan events and cultivation activities related to donor identification, cultivation and stewardship;
  • Increase charitable donations by cultivating and soliciting private foundations, and strategically organizing proposals, fundraising visits, activities and events; 
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to develop and distribute donor communications that are consistent and meaningful; 
  • Serve as liaison between prospects and College (faculty/administrator/staff, retirees, alumni and organizations);
  • Manage Development Office database to ensure that all pertinent information for prospects is up to date and accurate;
  • Assist with coordination and implementation of other Development Office and College programs, activities, and events as requested; 
  • Grow in professional expertise; participate in professional organizations, attend pertinent local, regional, or national continuing education meetings; read and interpret supportive professional publications;

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • Three (3) years of professional fundraising, non-profit or sales experience; 
  • Experience demonstrating strong interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining relationships;
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, develop and steward client/donor relationships;
  • Strong communication skills including demonstrated experience with proposals and solicitations;
  • Excellent data management and reporting skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within two months of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in a higher education setting;
  • Experience working in community college fundraising setting;
  • Experience with Planned Giving including knowledge of planned giving instruments and the tax and legal benefits of charitable giving; 
  • Familiarity with fundraising software, preferably Raiser’s Edge or Raiser’s Edge NXT;
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) Certificate; and
  • Familiarity with Eastern Washington.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time, exempt position.  This position is overtime exempt with general work hours of Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however, work hours may vary due to work demands and some evening and weekend work may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including having the ability to move materials on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. and travel between buildings on campus. Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.
 
Work environment includes office and other settings as appropriate.  It is a fast paced and sometimes stressful services environment.   The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises. Some travel may be required.

The FSA and DCAP plans are optional plans offered by the College and the State of Washington. They are calendar year, pre-tax, spending programs you can use to set aside money for eligible expenses. Both plans are offered as payroll deductions and are administered by Navia Benefit Solutions.

The FSA allows you to use pre-tax money to pay for certain out-of-pocket medical expenses. For 2023, FSA annual contributions can be between $120 minimum and $2,850 maximum. As a "use it or lose it" IRC governed plan, medical expense reimbursements can be requested for employee, spouse, or IRS eligible dependents.
The Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP) allows you to save on child or elder care expenses (e.g. babysitting, daycare, in-home care for an older dependent incapable of self-care).

Provides 60% of the first $400 pre-disability monthly earnings, reduced by any deductible income.
The minimum benefit is $100 per month, maximum benefit is $240 per month. Benefits begin after 90 days of disability or the period of accumulated paid leave, whichever is longer.

MOVING EXPENSE REIMBURSMENT

REDUCED TUITION WAIVER PROGRAM
Employees can take most credit and non-credit classes at a reduced cost when space is available and certain conditions are met.
 
Credit classes
Permanent classified, faculty, adjunct faculty and administrative employees of CBC may take almost any credit class on a space-available basis if requirements and prerequisites have been met. The basic cost is $5.00, plus any fees associated with that class. Hourly and probationary employees are not eligible for this reduced tuition.


VACATION, SICK LEAVE, & HOLIDAYS
Vacation & Sick Leave
Classified staff, and administrative staff accrue vacation and sick leave at rates determined by their employer group. Employees represented by a bargaining unit should refer to their negotiated agreement for accrual rates.
