Position Summary

Brief Description of Job: The Associate Dean of Academic Transfer Programs provides college-wide administrative oversight of the academic transfer discipline, supervises and coordinates all academic transfer activities and programs, works in cooperation with other campus and college-wide administrators.      

Based on Salary Schedule C1 $85,093 to $122,061

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  1. Provide leadership that advances innovation, accountability, and excellence.
  2.  Support and implement the mission of the College and the College’s Strategic Plan, and the “one college concept.”
  3.  Participate with the VPs, Deans, College-Wide Curriculum Committee, Instructional Discipline Committees, faculty, and staff in the development of educational programs and activities. 
  4.  Work with the Dean of Instruction to develop annual and semester schedules that ensure the best utilization of resources in order for students to complete a course of study within an appropriate timeframe.
  5.  Work with the Instructional Discipline Committees, to ensure academic integrity, the use of the correct syllabi, and a uniform grading system. 
  6.  Work with the Instructional Discipline Committees to ensure transfer information is current and distributed to applicable advisors, monitoring of changes in the state curriculum, and the evaluation and revision of student-learning outcomes.  
  7. Work in conjunction with the faculty to develop and review General Education Core Competencies, review-learning objectives in order to eliminate duplication, develop instructional discipline specific goals and objectives, and participate in Institutional Effectiveness Reviews.
  8.  Work in conjunction with the Instructional Discipline Committees to review syllabi for standardization, review and recommend programs of study for each major, recommend curriculum and/or program changes, recommend textbook changes, and participate in the program review process.
  9.  Provide day-to-day supervision, coordination, and integration of college-wide programs and personnel including appropriate Campus Chairs at all instructional sites.
  10.  Serve as a member of College committees as assigned.
  11.  Recruit and recommend faculty.
  12.  Evaluate and recommend technology needs for the appropriate disciplines.
  13.  Maintain appropriate records and files (i.e. grade books, syllabi, work orders, etc.) related to the operation of the disciplines, campus, and college.
  14.  In concert with the Dean of Instruction, plan and implement faculty orientation, mentoring programs, and in-service and professional development activities.
  15.  Work with the appropriate Campus Chairs to supervise and evaluate campus faculty/staff members in     performance of their duties.
  16.  Recommend letters of appointment, and approve adjunct, temporary, and part-time faculty.
  17.  Recommend faculty requests for rank increase.
  18.  Participate in the development of the instructional budgets, and the college budget with broad-based input from personnel.
  19.  Assist in the development and administration of grants and relevant budgets.
  20.  Participate in College and community events.
  21.  Develop, articulate, administer, and evaluate instructional policies and procedures.
  22.  Provide collegial leadership for a diverse faculty and staff in an academic environment.
  23.  Participate in the development, implementation, assessment, and securing or maintaining certification and/or accreditation.
  24.  Maintain responsibility for institutional effectiveness reporting, including submission of goals and objects and evaluation of those goals and objectives.
  25.  Motivate, communicate with, and lead faculty in accomplishing educational objectives. 
  26.  aintain professional credentials and affiliation with and participate in appropriate local, state, regional and national professional organizations.
  27. Edit College publications related to the appropriate disciplines.
  28.  Fulfill other duties assigned by the President, Vice President, or Dean of Instruction.

Qualifications

Required Education and Work Experience: Minimum of a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution. Full-time teaching experience in an academic transfer discipline, preferably in a two-year college.  Experience in instructional supervision preferred.  Documented work experience in instructional supervision and academic transfer teaching are required.

All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.  Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control.   The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.  The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.  The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.  

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:
  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
