About Springfield Technical Community College :

Springfield Technical Community College was founded in September 1967 with the mission of providing comprehensive higher education access to the Greater Springfield, Massachusetts, region using a career and technical focus. STCC is one of 15 public community colleges in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the only one with a distinctly technical focus, which today carries a particular focus on healthcare.  Springfield, Massachusetts, is located in Hampden County, and is the fourth largest city in New England.  

Throughout its history, the College has offered the community a comprehensive portfolio of academic offerings, including non-credit/workforce development, with a unique array of healthcare programs (hosting the SIMs Medical Center, the largest patient simulation collection in the Northeast), as well as transfer and career-focused programs in applied psychology, human services/social work, business, education, criminal justice, IT/Cyber, manufacturing and engineering, as well as architecture/building technology and HVAC/Energy Systems.


Job Description:

The Vice President for Academic Affairs provides comprehensive and visionary leadership for implementation of the College's mission and priorities, particularly regarding academic programming, quality, and excellence, along with innovative teaching and learning at a comprehensive and technical community college. This position serves as the Chief Academic Officer, and to ensure programs remain relevant and responsive, the VPAA plays a key role in ensuring partnerships with four-year institutions, local schools, government agencies, and employers. All full-time and adjunct faculty report up and through the Division of Academic Affairs, with the VPAA responsible for caring and dynamic personnel oversight and supervision.

The VPAA recommends and administers academic policies and procedures and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet. The VPAA is an academic leader dedicated to fostering the intellectual life of the College and student success who is forward-thinking and has a deep understanding of national and regional higher education trends, especially as they relate to community colleges. Reporting to the VPAA are three School Deans, who work directly with faculty in programmatic and curricular decision-making.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

The next Vice President for Academic Affairs shall demonstrate the following required characteristics:

  • A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution;
  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible academic leadership, including the management and supervision of faculty;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in a diverse higher education setting; and
  • Experience with regional and specialized accreditation processes and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

The Vice President for Academic Affairs may also demonstrate some of these preferred qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution;
  • Community college teaching and administration experience;
  • Experience in a unionized environment and experience with collective bargaining and grievance processes;
  • High level of digital literacy to lead the College's vision around educational technology and online learning to support STCC's continued advancement and success;
  • Extensive knowledge of current trends, concepts, and techniques in higher education, community colleges, and academic affairs;
  • Extensive knowledge of and proficiency with classroom practices, teaching methodologies, program review and assessment systems;
  • Demonstrated strategic and operational planning skills in a college environment;
  • Excellent administrative, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Organizational and project management skills with the ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, to achieve goals and deadlines;
  • Demonstrated skills in making timely, data-driven, decisions and ensuring open, honest communications as appropriate, to establish consistency and fairness throughout the College;
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strategic internal and external partnerships;
  • Possess a record of demonstrated and quantifiable commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism both on-campus and within institutional communities;
  • Be a transparent and inspiring leader, working closely with the president and the College community on its strategic goals, with an understanding of and commitment to shared governance and administrative processes used in contemporary higher education.


Additional Information:

Candidates for employment should be aware that all STCC employees are required to complete Information Awareness Security Training within thirty days of their orientation date and annually thereafter.
