It is the 3rd largest in the nation based on the number of colleges. It also provides data to the North Carolina Learning Object Repository by collecting, contributing, and sharing digital learning resources for use in traditional or distance learning environments. NC Community Colleges System Office has an opening for an Apprenticeship Regional Youth Coordinator in the Economic Development Division. The recruitment range: $39,456 – $65,500.

 

The Economic Development team provides education, training, and support services for new, expanding, and existing business and industry in all 100 North Carolina counties through our network of 58 community colleges. The mission of ApprenticeshipNC is to ensure North Carolina has an innovative, relevant, effective, and efficient workforce development system that develops adaptable, work ready, skilled talent to meet the current and future needs of workers and businesses to achieve and sustain economic prosperity. 

Categories of Apprenticeships: There are many types of apprenticeships programs of various duration, level of required technical education, and level of employer investment.  Depending on their design, these programs may be more attractive to specific demographics, including an employer’s existing workforce, veterans, high school, or college students.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Primary duty station will be at a community college, within the North Central Economic Region.   Apprenticeship Regional Youth Coordinator will be responsible for all counties within the North Central Economic Region, which will include the following: Chatham, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Nash, Orange, Person, Vance, Warren, Wilson, and Wake Counties

 

The Apprenticeship Regional Youth Coordinator is responsible for the promotion, development, registration, and servicing of all registered apprenticeships in their region. Upon completion of the program by an apprentice, the consultant will ensure that all criterions for the required skilled training have been completed by the apprentice.  This criterion is set forth by State and Federal apprenticeship rules and regulations.  The Youth Coordinator will then complete the process for completion so that a certificate is provided.  The youth coordinator will work to promote youth apprenticeship as a viable post-secondary opportunity to across the state.

 

The Apprenticeship Regional Youth Coordinator, along with the employer, assesses existing training needs, projects future needs, and designs training programs to accomplish immediate and long-term skill training goals. The Apprenticeship Regional Youth Coordinator provides business and industry with the plan to develop skill standards and skill competencies. 

 

The Apprenticeship Regional Youth Coordinator will share best practices from existing apprenticeships throughout the state and trends in individual occupations that can update other sections of the state to facilitate program development. The Apprenticeship Regional Youth Coordinator is responsible for bringing together industry groups for industry wide development of training that can be used statewide or in local industries or groups. The Apprenticeship Regional Youth Coordinator oversees multiple projects and programs in various stages of development and is expected to allocate resources to best accomplish the goals of programs within projected timelines while meeting the obligations for performance and commitments for each program. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Proficiency in all Microsoft applications is preferred.  Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.  Candidate needs considerable knowledge of and experience in marketing and industry development. Skills in marketing, presentations and project development, oral and written communication, and application of personnel computers for word processing, presentations, and data entry. Must have a considerable understanding of organizational processes and program procedures to respond to the public inquiries and to provide interpretation to ApprenticeshipNC employees.

 

MANAGEMENT'S PREFERENCES: The applicant should possess proficiency in communication skills, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the Internet.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, industrial education, instructional design or discipline related to the assigned workforce training area from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in designing, providing, and/or coordinating industry-specific training in higher education, business or the public sector; or Associate’s degree in any of those same disciplines from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in designing, providing, and/or coordinating industry-specific training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
