Description

This is a full time, 9-month position shared between Catawba Valley Community College and Gaston College, with teaching assignments on the Dallas Campus of Gaston College
 
Position open until filled


Sign-on Hiring Bonus: one-time signing bonus in an amount equal to $5,000.00

Examples of Duties

Provides classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction to students.
 
 Prepares for each learning experience; prepares, maintains, and updates lesson plans; develops and prepares methods to evaluate student performance; prepares laboratory to provide demonstrations and hands-on experience as appropriate; orders supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons as appropriate.
 
 Meets classes/labs/clinical at scheduled times.
 
 Develops and prepares tests to evaluate student performance; proctors tests; grades and records individual scores.  Evaluates student performance in laboratory/clinical when applicable.
 
 Serves as academic advisor and counselor, assists in registration of students and maintains advisee files, provides individual assistance to students outside of classroom as appropriate.
 
 Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and/or courses.
 
 Regularly attends faculty meetings, staff meetings, and graduation ceremonies as required.
 
 Maintains accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintains various records and databases according to program needs or accreditation requirements, and submits records according to policy.
 
 Maintains current knowledge in the appropriate academic fields; participates in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate. (Minimum of 30 hours per year.)
 
 Assists with and carries out, as required, the implementation of policies and procedures related to the instructional area.
 
 Communicates clearly, concisely, and in a caring manner with students.


 Participates on standing, ad hoc, or other institutional committees and activities as required.
 
 Participates, as required, in the development and operation of program advisory committees.
 
 Assesses the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revises and improves lessons format; evaluates a variety of textbooks, films, and videos; selects books and other materials to be used for assigned instructional classes.
 
 Demonstrates competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances; trains students in the safe handling of hazardous substances or equipment, where applicable.
 
 Selects, recommends, and maintains a variety of laboratory equipment, tools, and supplies where applicable.
 
 Maintains classroom/laboratory/shop area to include overall cleanliness and conformance to OSHA requirements where applicable.
 
 Participates in the budget process as requested.
 
 Participates in the orientation of new part-time and full-time faculty as requested.
 
 Maintains required office hours according to established policies.
 
 Develops/maintains personal contacts with business and industry as appropriate.
 
 Serves as an effective liaison between college programs and clinical agencies as appropriate.
 
 Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies, as assigned.
 
 Interacts with colleagues and students in a collegial and professional manner.
 
 Performs back-up instructional activities for other instructors as appropriate.
 
 Participates in recruitment of students and/or promotion of college programs as appropriate for the teaching area.
 
 Participates in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, program evaluation, student progress, and qualifications for graduation.

Qualifications

Must hold at least a baccalaureate degree in respiratory care or a related healthcare field from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
 
 The Faculty member must:
 
 a) hold a valid RRT credential and current state license;


 b) have a minimum of four (4) years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care;
 
 c) have a minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.

Physical Conditions:
 Classroom environment; work closely with others; may be exposed to hazardous laboratory substances.
 
 Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
 
 Frequent communications, verbal and written.
 
 Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Paid Leave
Annual Leave: All Full-time, non-faculty employees earn from 10-25 days annually based on years of service and contract period.
Sick Leave: Full-time employees earn one day (8 hours) of sick leave per contract month. Sick leave from other NC State Agencies in the retirement system may be transferred to CVCC.
Institutional Holidays: In addition to the various types of leave, CVCC grants an established number of legal holidays to full-time, regular employees on an annual basis.

Health Care
Health Insurance: 2 plans are available to full-time employees. Coverage is available, at current group rates, for spouse, child, or entire family.
Dental Insurance: Available to full-time employees and any eligible dependents at current group rates.
Vision Care: Coverage is available at current group rates, for employee and any eligible dependents.
Additional Coverage for Critical Illness, Cancer, Accident, Disability, etc: Optional supplemental coverage plans are available to employees who choose to participate.
Flexible Spending Accounts: most employees can opt for pre-tax flexible spending accounts which can be used to pay for out-of-pocket medical, dental, vision or dependent care expenses.

Disability Insurance
Full-time employees are enrolled in the Disability Income Plan of North Carolina. This plan provides both short-term and long-term disability income benefits. Retirement
NC Teacher's and State Employee's Retirement (TSER's): For employees assigned to work 20 hours per week or more, participation in this program is required. Employees contribute 6% of their salary, which is tax deferred. Vesting in the retirement system requires 5 years of membership.
Tax Deferred Programs: Tax-sheltering programs are available through IRS Code 125 (Cafeteria Plan), 401 (k) and 457 (Deferred Compensation).

Additional Benefits
Longevity Pay: After 10 years of creditable service, employees, receive an annual longevity payment based on years of service and annual salary.
Life Insurance: After one year of service, a Death Benefit is provided by the Retirement System. Optional life insurance coverage is also available for both employee and dependents through payroll deduction.
Employee Assistance Program: It is the policy of CVCC to provide an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as a benefit to assist employees with personal problems that may adversely affect job performance. CVCC provides coverage for the first five visits.
