Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):
Nursing faculty provide students with classroom and clinical instruction to acquire the knowledge and practice the skills identified in course objectives using varied and appropriate teaching methods.  They plan learning activities to meet program outcomes based on the standards set by policies, legal and other regulatory requirements, and acceptable practice.

This position specifically exists to provide student instruction in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines, and maintain required program standards for the Nursing Department. In addition, this individual works with the Department Director, Branch campus coordinator and other Nursing Program faculty in establishing laboratory schedules, student advising, recruitment, assists with assessment and evaluation of student learning,  and participates in the program’s evaluation and continuous improvement process and engages in personal professional development. The position reports, on a day-to-day basis, to the Nursing Program Director. General faculty responsibilities are identified in detail within the institution's Policy and Procedures Handbook.  

Job Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Teach courses as assigned within faculty workload guidelines, which may include, lecture, and laboratory, clinical and clinical simulation.  Provides adequate preparation of the course material for all assigned courses.  Includes appropriate supervision of students in the learning environment.  Serves as a substitute within the program for absent colleagues for short-term absences as determined by Program Director or Dean.  Maintains a work schedule as agreed upon by the supervisor and in concert with the state and faculty workload policy. Maintain, and update course syllabi, lectures, lab exercises/tests, and instructional materials, as appropriate in accordance with accreditation and college standards. Teaching assignment may include courses at both the Pueblo and Fremont campuses.
  • Assists in the development and revision of curriculum and program and student outcomes assessment.
  • Works cooperatively with other full-time and part-time faculty and assists in providing training and supervision within the department.
  • Serves as faculty advisor for students.
  • Participates in program promotional activities and maintains a work schedule agreed upon by the Program Director and in concert with the faculty workload policy.
  • Participates in regional and national self-studies and program reviews as required to maintain state program approval and national accreditation. Assist in the collection of program/student data needed to maintain all necessary program approval/accreditation.
  • Follows guidelines of the PCC Faculty Evaluation and Compensation Plan and is responsible for adhering to all laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations that govern and affect the College. This includes the Fiscal Rules of the State of Colorado.
  • Attends all regularly scheduled department, division, and college meetings/trainings as required by contract, unless these meetings conflict with a scheduled class or unless the faculty member is excused by the Program Director or Dean.
Non-Essential Functions:
  • Participates in screening of nursing student applicants.
  • Participates in on- campus interviews of potential nursing faculty.
  • Attends graduation

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from a nursing education program with National Nursing accreditation
Licenses or Certificates:
  • Active, unencumbered Colorado Registered Nurse license
  • Eligible for Colorado Vocational Teaching Credential
Experience:
  • Two years of recent clinical experience.  
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to participate as a member of a high performing team.
  • Effective Time Management
  • Commitment to working with a diverse population.
  • Able to travel between the Pueblo and Fremont campuses for teaching assignments

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctorate Degree in Nursing
Licenses or Certificates:
  • Colorado Vocational Teaching Credential
Experience:
  • Three years of recent clinical experience in maternal-child nursing
  • Nursing education experience
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of assessment principles
  • Knowledge in curriculum development
  • Knowledge of student retention models
