Under the direction of the area administrator, the Director of Workforce Development will

manage special projects, initiatives, and grants related to the College’s Career Education and

Workforce Development programs and assist the College in achieving objectives according to

Federal, State, and District guidelines. The Director will manage and coordinate projects;

participate in grant application development, budget management, and reporting; and oversee

the implementation and operation of various initiatives and projects that support MPC Career

Education faculty and programs.

Example of Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with the development, implementation, coordination, and operation of the College’s plans, goals, and objectives related to Career Education and Workforce Development

  • Assist with research, development, and submission of applications and/or proposals for special projects, programs, initiatives, partnerships, and grants related to Career Education and Workforce Development

  • Assist with the implementation, operations, evaluation, and improvement of special projects, programs, initiatives, partnerships, and grants related to Career Education and Workforce Development; assist with developing, implementing, tracking, and managing timelines and deliverables for special projects, programs, initiatives, partnerships, and grants

  • Serve as a liaison to internal and external partners for special projects, programs,
    initiatives, partnerships, and grants related to Career Education and Workforce Development programs

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the implementation, operation, evaluation, and improvement of activities related to the College’s partnerships with the County Workforce Development Board and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) providers

  • Work in collaboration with College faculty, staff, administrators, K-12, adult education, university partners, and industry partners/advisory groups to identify, develop, and implement educational opportunities related to Career Education and Workforce Development

  • Prepare applications, proposals, budgets, and reports for local, state, and federal grants related to Career Education; develop, implement, and manage systems to track Career Education and Workforce Development budgets and related grant budgets; collaborate with MPC Fiscal Services to accurately track, monitor, reconcile, and report Career Education and Workforce Development budgets and related grant budgets

  • Serve as a liaison and facilitate collaboration with other campus departments to support Career Education and Workforce Development programs and activities

  • Participate in marketing, outreach, and communication activities to promote Career Education and Workforce Development programs and activities.

  • Participate in the completion of program review, planning, and resource allocation processes for Career Education and Workforce Development programs; support ongoing evaluation and improvement of the programs and services

  • Assist with maintaining and fulfilling college-wide and program-specific accreditation requirements; assist with developing, compiling, and completing applications, reports, and other documents required for accreditation processes.

  • Maintain current knowledge of regulations, requirements, trends, and models related to Career Education and Workforce Development and other areas related to the assignment. Participate in local, regional, state, and national meetings, committees, workshops, training sessions, and conferences as appropriate.

  • Serve as a source of information for College faculty, staff, administrators, K-12, adult education, university, and industry partners/advisory groups regarding local, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations related to Career Education and Workforce Development

  • Process administrative details not requiring the immediate attention of the supervisor; perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the assigned program(s).


Other Duties:

  • Attend meetings and serve on college, local and state committees and organizations, as required.

  • Assist in the hiring process; train and direct the work of staff and student employees, as required.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Training, Experience and Education: Any combination of education and/or experience, which would demonstrate the possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities listed herein. For example, a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 2-3 years of increasingly responsible recent experience in Academic Affairs, Career Education and experience in a multicultural, multilingual organization as well as demonstrated experience in managerial responsibilities and financial aid management software.

Knowledge of: Career education and workforce development practices, K-12, Community

College, Adult Education, and/or University educational policies and practices; research

methods; report writing; presentation skills; current office procedures and practices including

filing systems; a variety of word processing, spreadsheet and/or database programs as needed to fulfill the requirements of the job.


Ability to: Effectively organize, direct and manage, formulate, interpret and administer policy

and procedures; learn, explain and apply current and new policies, procedures, rules and

regulations pertaining to Career Education programs and the associated grants; analyze

situations and make decisions on procedural matters; understand and independently carry out oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; work

effectively with all levels of the District (students, faculty, management and staff), governmental representatives, community representatives, and the general public; train, supervise and evaluate staff to ensure efficient, responsive and friendly service to students, faculty, staff and administration; prioritize and schedule work to meet schedules and timelines; maintain security and confidentiality of records and information; accurately and efficiently use a variety of word processing, spreadsheet and/or database programs to create/produce letters, reports, spreadsheets and other documents as needed to fulfill the requirements of the job; learn and successfully use new software programs as required to fulfill the requirements of the job; use appropriate and correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; learn and successfully apply current/new office policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties; demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for, the academic, ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of students and staff attending or working on a community college campus.


PHYSICAL EFFORT / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light physical effort; occasional standing or walking; periodic handling of lightweight parcels.

Indoor work environment.


PROOF OF VACCINATION

Desirable Qualifications

  • Two years of demonstrated experience in academic affairs, career education, and continuing education at a community college or equivalent. 

  • Working knowledge of grant development and management, program accreditation, and workforce development including experience with collaborating with workforce development board and WIOA partners. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, language, disabilities and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

  • Success integrating diversity as appropriate into the major duties outlined in the job
    description and in the duties listed in the District’s hiring policy; or demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to do so.

  • Experience collaborating with various internal departments, governmental and private agencies, other colleges, the community, outside school districts, and personnel.

Management/Supervisory Schedule, RANGE 45

Starting Salary: $5,600 (Step A) - $6,174 (Step C) per month, depending upon experience

and qualifications + GREAT BENEFITS PACKAGE (no additional costs for benefits)
