Summary

The individual who serves as Program Director of the Dental Hygiene is a faculty member who will teach within the program and have assigned release time for performing director responsibilities.  This academic leader will be accountable for providing direction for the faculty teaching team, while encouraging collective approach in fulfillment of program goals, attainment of student learning outcomes, evaluation of program outcomes, and assurance of continuous curricular quality improvement to maintain full accreditation through the Committee on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of American Dental Association. These responsibilities require leadership in both teaching and learning and program management, and include directing and collaborating with faculty in academic planning, guiding program organization, managing budget, coordinating staffing, as well as advising, supporting, and motivating students.  This leader will support innovation, demonstrate exceptional teaching skills in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings, and display enthusiasm while assessing and addressing diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff.  The dental hygiene program promotes contemporary teaching, quality scholarship, equity, and strives for academic success for students.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintain highest possible standards of the Dental Hygienist program and dental hygiene education. 
  2. Lead fulltime and adjunct faculty in curriculum development and instructional advancement. 
  3. Coordinate and schedule courses to facilitate effective teaching and alignment of learning activities.
  4. Coordinate program assessment strategies for class, clinical, and lab. 
  5. Coordinate, facilitate, and supervise dental hygiene clinic components.
  6. Establish and maintain community partnerships and affiliation with clinical agencies and agency personnel
  7. Participate in and encourage faculty professional development to remain current with dental hygiene education, workforce trends, and emerging technology. 
  8. Maintain skills through professional development, continuing education, and scholarly activities appropriate to higher education and discipline.
  9. Actively serve on college, department, and program committees.
  10. Actively participate in student recruitment and academic advisement activities.
  11. Support college-wide initiatives and actively participates in organizational meetings.
  12. Perform assigned responsibilities during the day, evening and/or weekend on any campus.
  13. Perform related duties as required.

  1. Valid professional licensure as a Dental Hygienist or Dentist
    • must be a graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
    • dentist who has background in education and the professional experience necessary to fulfill program goals
    • dental hygienist who has five (5) years of clinical work experience.
  2. Dental Hygienist must have Master’s degree or higher in dental hygiene, education, training and development, management or other directly related discipline.
  3. Academic teaching experience in classroom and clinic. 
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Strong analyzing and problem-solving skills. 
  7. Strong organizing and prioritizing skills to meet critical deadlines.
  8. Strong multi-tasking and decision-making skills.
  9. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
  10. Ability to serve the needs of a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Doctoral degree in related field.
  2. Administrative and teaching experience in a Dental Hygiene program.
  3. Experience working at a community college
