Title Postdoc Position in Mode Entangled Neutron Beams with Orbital Angular Momentum for Quantum Sensing
Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track
Department IU Bloomington Cntr For Explor of En & Matter
Location Bloomington
Position Summary
The Indiana University Center for the Exploration of Energy and Matter (CEEM), together with the Indiana University Physics Department, is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to help develop mode-entangled neutron beams with neutron orbital angular momentum (OAM) for quantum sensing. We will collaborate with researchers at the University of Waterloo, the Technical University of Wien, George Washington University, and the University of Halle and with scientists at national and international neutron facilities such as NCNR, SNS/HFIR, and LANSCE in the U.S., ISIS in the UK, and ILL in France to conduct this work. Our group at IU has an international reputation for research in this area and for building some of the novel instrumentation required.

The post-doctoral appointee will work on the use of superconducting neutron Wollaston prisms, polarized 3He neutron spin filters, and other devices to generate and analyze mode-entangled neutron beams and neutron beams with OAM; the interaction of neutron OAM beams on p-wave neutron-nucleus resonances, and the development of novel RF neutron-spin-flippers using high temperature superconducting materials. Development of new instrumentation will require computer simulation using commercially available software such as MagNet© and COMSOL© as well as mechanical design, testing and neutron beam experiments at national neutron facilities. The appointee will have the opportunity to spend extended time at the labs mentioned above in the course of these projects.

Basic Qualifications
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent qualification in a field such as Physics, Chemistry or Engineering. Experience with neutron or synchrotron x-ray experiments and/or the development of associated instrumentation is an advantage but not a necessity. Experience in designing, building and using novel instrumentation for science experiments will be an advantage.
