Position Summary

The Instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom or online instruction and related activities.  The Instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any College campus as assigned.  As a minimum, the related activities include instruction, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. Instructional duties require about 60% of position effort.

 

The Head Coach is responsible for all duties associated with coaching the team. Head coaches are an integral component of Snead State Community College Athletics and as such are responsible for assuring SSCC Athletics are of the highest caliber. Duties include recruitment and selection of athletes, complying with all NJCAA, ACCC, and ACCS policies and guidelines, raising external funding to support team operations, monitoring academic achievement for team, supervising training and/or conditioning for team. In addition, coaches are expected to work together as a team to benefit the overall athletics program and have other duties as assigned by athletic director.   Head Basketball coach duties should require about 40% of position effort.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assume personal responsibility for instruction in all classes assigned.
  • Assist in departmental projects, such as the preparation/selection of departmental course syllabi, collection and analysis of learning outcomes data, selection of textbooks/materials, etc.
  • Master software and technology as needed in order to enhance instruction; develop, and deliver web-based instruction in accordance with standards set by the College.
  • Maintain currency of professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education.
  • Recruit and mentor quality student-athletes with an ultimate goal of graduating a significant percentage of recruited athletics within two years.
  • Oversee all operations of the team or teams including management of budget and facilities as assigned.
  • Achieve specific fund-raising goals as established by the Athletic Director and President annually.
  • Complete NJCAA required compliance functions as required by Athletic Director.
  • Foster a customer service environment for fellow employees, students, and visitors. Be an Ambassador for the College. Support the college’s initiative to maximize retention of current students and enable students to finish their collegiate goals.
  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the ACCS Chancellor’s Office, and the College.
  • Participate in College functions (Award and Honor events, Alumni Homecoming,  Commencement, Parson Days, etc.)
  • Assume other work related responsibilities as assigned by the appropriately assigned College administrator.

Qualifications

 Salary Schedule D1, 9 month $40,473-$87,562

Education requirement must be earned by August 2024, is required.  

 

Academic teaching fields (i.e., science, math, history, biology, physical education, etc.) a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours from a regionally accredited institution in the teaching field required.

Technical teaching fields (i.e., EET, CIS Technology, etc.) an Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution, a major in the assigned teaching area, and three years of successful full-time experience as a practitioner in the technical field required.

 

Prior experience in coaching basketball at the high school or collegiate level required.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement

Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.  The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
