Job Description:

Springfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for the position of Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Adjunct Faculty.  Working with and under the supervision of the OTA Department Chair and Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation, this adjunct faculty is responsible for planning and delivering instruction to a diverse population of students, assessing academic performance and supporting student success.  In line with Accreditation Standards set forth by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), the candidate must be competent to deliver a broad scope of occupational therapy practice and have documented expertise in their area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of a variety of content delivery methods including distance learning. 

The adjunct faculty will be responsible for collaborating with OTA as well as other health faculty to create intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teaching and learning opportunities.   In addition to teaching, this candidate will fulfill the duties of advising and College Service, in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.   The OTA adjunct faculty must be nationally certified in occupational therapy and possess and maintain a current license to practice in Massachusetts.

Under the supervision of the OTA Department Chair and the Dean of the SHPS, the OTA adjunct faculty will demonstrate excellence in the following areas:

Leadership and Management:

  • Collaborates with the Department Chair to meet the long range and strategic plans of the campus and the OTA program.
  • Works collaborative with Department Chair and faculty to complete annual program evaluation.
  • Submits promptly, and in proper form, all reports and requests as set forth by the Department Chair, Dean of SHPS and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Collaborates with faculty and other college staff on initiatives to increase support for occupational therapy assistant students and faculty.
  • Attend all meetings as required.

Teaching & Assessment:

  • In conjunction with the Department Chair, assesses student progress toward program goals which are consistent with the College's Student Success Plan and the College's mission.
  • Ensures that student learning outcomes for courses are current and assessed regularly, documenting the process and submitting appropriate information to the Department Chair and Dean as requested.
  • Teaches didactic education component of OTA courses to students from a diverse cultural and educational background. The person filling this position believes that all students can learn, and that student engagement in clinical education enhances knowledge of didactic content and leads to higher student success.
  • Evaluates student academic performance in line with department policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with Academic Fieldwork Coordinator regarding fieldwork and practicum experiences.
  • Provides guidance to students in their learning and educational planning.
  • Advises students.

Personnel:

  • Participates in campus/off-campus events and professional development activities.
  • Abide by the regulations set out in the Massachusetts Community College Council collective bargaining agreement.

Facilities:

  • Ensures utilization and proper maintenance of specialized learning equipment and materials for safe education and client practice.

Fiscal:

  • Forwards recommendations on instructional supply and equipment needs to the Department Chair.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves on college committees and task forces.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • A master's degree in occupational therapy preferred; a minimum of an associate's degree in occupational therapy from a program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association Accreditation Council in Occupational Therapy Education. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of occupational therapy practice experience that includes managerial aspects of practice and clinical education of students.
  • At least two years' experience providing didactic education in a variety of settings with a variety of populations.
  • National certification in occupational therapy.
  • Current Massachusetts occupational therapy license.
