We have an exciting opportunity for a Child Development & Education Center Master Teacher located at our campus in San Jacinto, CA. Under the general supervision of the Director, Site Supervisor, or designee, the Child Development and Education Center Master Teacher provides instruction for student teachers and interns and supervises assistant and associate teachers who work with children in activities designed to promote optimal emotional, social, physical, intellectual and creative development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direction and guidance for students and classroom aides as they complete the daily tasks in the classroom
  • Assess students, interns and assistants as they strive to complete learning objectives
  • Act as a role model for students, parents and Center visitors
  • Plan, implement and supervise a specific age group program in accordance with Center policies and philosophy; ensure the program is carried out by classroom staff
  • Provide an integrated curriculum that meets the developmental needs of individual children
  • Assist children in self-help and social skills
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including coursework, regular staff meetings and parent meetings
  • Provide a climate of respect for each child's individual personality, physical characteristics and traits, culture, language and ethnic characteristics, family structure, developmental needs and behavior
  • Utilize and promote positive guidance techniques
  • Facilitate positive and productive relationships with families that support the development of children
  • Assess children's needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis and applies this assessment to plan activities
  • Maintain daily records with regards to attendance, health and nutrition
  • Perform housekeeping tasks and maintain a safe, clean, orderly and attractive learning environment for children
  • Maintain classroom supplies, materials and equipment 
  • Supervise the preparation, service and clean up of nutritious meals and snacks for young children
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 
The incumbent should possess knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of a child development center
  • Appropriate activities for children of various ages and skill levels, especially for preschool and infant/toddler age
  • Assessment and children's socio-emotional, physical and cognitive development.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. An Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (attach transcripts); AND
  2. Two (2) years of professional experience caring for children 18-36 months old, in a licensed, early childhood education setting; AND
  3. Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 60-days of hire:
    1. Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level (attach permit)
    2. Pediatric CPR certification
    3. Pediatric First Aid certification
  4. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
  1. Position requires requires completion of fifteen (15) semester units per school year toward a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline until the degree is completed

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Possess a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education with 48 semester units of Early Childhood Education, or a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 
This position is categorically funded and exists based on the availability of funds. If funds cease to be available, the District may, at its discretion, implement a reduction in force that could result in the elimination of the position.

Initial salary placement for this position is from Step 1 to Step 3 depending on the amount of reasonably related experience.  The job is a Classified position, Level 17 working full time, 40 hours per week, 10 months.  The position serves District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility.  The current work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:15 am – 3:45 pm. Work hours are subject to change depending on department needs.

A twelve-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the District. The District provides a contribution towards medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.  Vacation and sick leave are provided.  PERS participation is required for retirement eligible employees.  As a condition of employment candidates will be required to complete a Livescan for fingerprint clearance and a Tuberculosis (TB) test/Tuberculosis Risk Assessment form developed by the State Department of Public Health.  Candidates must have an insurable driver's record.

THE COMMUNITY
The area provides a diverse geography that includes recreational lakes, mountains, desert and wide-open spaces.  MSJC is located about 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 50 miles west of Palm Springs.   There is freeway access to ocean beaches, skiing and cultural offerings in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. Weekend recreational opportunities are a few hours away in Las Vegas, Arizona and nearby mountain resorts.  Local theater productions and art galleries provide year-round entertainment, including the famous Ramona Festival and Pageant.
