Primary Purpose of Position

This position will serve as the Coordinator of Student Life.  This includes serving as Student Government Association (SGA) advisor, student ambassador advisor and coordinator for all student clubs and organizations. The administration, planning, budgeting, and execution for campus student events and activities will be performed by this position.

Essential Job Duties

Student Life

  • Work with college administration, students, and faculty to create and administer a college-wide activity plan for events that fosters learning, student engagement, and service, and promotes opportunities for personal growth and leadership development.
  • Implements strategies and initiatives to increase student participation and engagement in a variety of extracurricular activities.
  • Serve as primary advisor for the SGA – includes travel to SGA conferences and events.
  • Facilitate monthly SGA meetings.
  • Conduct leadership training for SGA officers & Student Ambassadors. 
  • Actively work with student clubs and advisors to promote student engagement.
  • Support SGA President in preparation for Board of Trustee meetings. 
  • Community outreach and collaboration.
  • Manage online information and resources. 
  • Work with Marketing on communication with students, including social media. 
  • Manage all budgetary items in a timely and responsible manner.
  • Function as a team member with Student Services - assist with wellness events, recruiting, graduation, registration, etc. as needed.
  • Serve on college committees as appointed.

Qualifications

Minimum

Associate Degree's; Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint); Skilled in solving problems; Experience in working with students, faculty, and staff; Information processing; and Strong communication skills.  


Preferred
Meet minimum requirements and hold a Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Business Administration, Communications, Computer Technologies; Experience in a fast-paced office environment working with diverse groups of people.

Haywood Community College (HCC) is part of the North Carolina Community College System and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Full-time: Employees working on a full time schedule in a permanently established position when the incumbent is expected to be retained in the position on a contracted basis. Full-time staff receive contracts for a specific length of time within a fiscal year. Full-time faculty receive contracts for an academic period within a fiscal year, as required by state law, and may be contracted on a month by month basis per instructional needs thereafter.

During specified contract periods, full-time faculty and staff will be afforded the following benefits:

Full-time faculty and staff are also offered supplemental benefits which are optional.  The cost of any supplemental benefit is the responsibility of the employee.
