About SUNY Broome Community College:

SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York.  The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.  An additional 1,600 students are served through the College's workforce and non-credit programs.


Job Description:

SUNY Broome Community College is seeking a full-time, temporary Senior Staff Assistant grant position who will work with students to help participants navigate through the various offerings and visualize how programs stack together to meet their individualized college career goals. The Senior Staff Assistant will work with community partners and workforce investment boards to understand the social and job placement supports available in each community and to refer students appropriately.  Working in conjunction with Broome-Tioga Workforce support services ensuring the unemployed and adult populations who want to reskill are aware of what is available to them, as well as creating new partnerships for support services.

This grant is through the New Energy New York (NENY) program and will focus on manufacturing related programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support students in selecting the appropriate program for their college and career goals including understanding of credit for prior learning and non-credit to credit pathways and able to explain the pathways to students.
  • Provide support for participants to assist with navigating enrollment, course selection, and registration processes for credit and non-credit courses/programs.
  • Provide and refer to on-campus support and guidance to foster retention and community partners for wrap-around services.
  • Assist with outreach and recruitment efforts as necessary.
  • Track student information and progress.


Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.  Additional training and education in the applicable administrative field is desirable.

Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working in an educational institution or in a related administrative function is desired.

Human Services experience or additional experience with any of the functional responsibilities of the position is preferred.

One (1) year of supervisory experience is required


Additional Information:

The minimum salary rate for this position is $46,561.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
