Mellon Sawyer Postdoctoral Fellow
Georgetown University: Main Campus: College of Arts & Sciences: English

Location: Washington, DC
Open Date: Apr 20, 2023
Deadline: May 16, 2023 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Description
Georgetown University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in support of the Mellon Sawyer Seminar, “Creative Placemaking, Black Restorative Ecologies, and Black Spatial Futures” to begin September 1, 2023. Scholars researching the overlapping and co-constitutive elements of race, place, society, and the environment, and particularly Black people's contributions to forward-thinking epistemologies and restorative practices around the same, are encouraged to apply.

The fellowship salary is $60,000 and includes fringe benefits. The term of the fellowship is ten months. Fellows will have access to a shared office on campus and will benefit from faculty mentorship. Applicants should be no more than 5 years removed from having received the Ph.D. (2018) and should have the Ph.D. conferred no later than July 31, 2023.

The fellow will have no teaching responsibilities and will be expected to devote their time to furthering their research and supporting all aspects of the Sawyer Seminar activities. The fellow will facilitate the planning and management of bi-weekly seminar meetings and public-facing events and will be the primary point of contact for Mellon Sawyer Seminar speakers and visiting scholars. With the help of a Graduate Assistant, the postdoctoral fellow will manage the seminar website and social media accounts, and help with production of the media recordings. Competitive candidates will have experience coordinating programs, effectively interfacing with various university offices as well as off-campus organizations and businesses, and devising creative solutions to engage a wide range of audiences (to include undergraduates, faculty, community members, artists, local businesses, etc.).

Questions about the application process should be directed to Dr. Amani Morrison at amani.morrison@georgetown.edu.
