Description Summary

The primary function of the person in this position includes assisting in the development of the 8-week online courses and programs, provide and create faculty training opportunities, supervising, and the evaluation of online faculty. The Distance Learning Associate must be an enthusiastic and creative employee, while also exhibiting genuine concern for students and staff.

Examples of Duties

Constant (67-100%)

  • Assist faculty in the development of online courses and programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of online courses.
  • Coordinate the pre-evaluations of transfer students into the online programs. 
  • Effectively resolve online student and faculty concerns and issues. 
  • Seek technology which would enhance course delivery methods.
  • Recruit and provide specialized training for online faculty
  • Maintain administrative duties of Salesforce. 
Frequent (34-66%)
  • Update curriculum for the program.
  • Coordinate placement testing for online students.
  • Troubleshoot faculty issues related to technology.
  • Coordinate and engage in professional development activities and seek information concerning developing trends and ideas relating to online teaching.
  • Maintain accurate records of students and faculty.
  • Maintain an effective retention strategy with the Online Representatives to improve graduation rates, financial aid academic plans, etc. 
  • Coordinate and assign faculty to teach online classes.
  • Effectively evaluate online adjunct faculty. 
  • Ensure correct ebooks are being used and instructors receive updates when they are changed.
  • Serve as a liaison by effectively communicating with online students and staff.
Occasional (10-33%)
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Attend meetings as required by the College.
  • Support College sponsored activities and events.
  • Support and promote the vision/mission of the College and work to achieve the vision/mission of the College.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  3. Communicate program availability and information to student and school personnel.
  4. Work cooperatively with the Distance Learning Staff, the Department Deans, and the faculty.
  5. Possess a working knowledge of educational programming and curriculum responsibilities.
  6. Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
  7. Express oneself clearly and effectively in written and oral form.
  8. Demonstrate strong human relations, communication, and academic advising skills.
  9. Conduct activities in the Center in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with Department and College objectives, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  10. Establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, staff, administrators, clients and the general public.
  11. Be sensitive to students’ needs and treat them with proper respect.
  12. Be available to assist students with program questions outside of class time.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.  Experience in education, and more specifically distance education, is recommended. Applicants must also have a good understanding of technology, working with the internet, various software programs, Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or other programs relating to technology in our online classroom environment.

Position involves constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, dexterity, viewing computer screens, grasping, talking, hearing and seeing; frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying (up to 30 pounds); and occasional (10-33%) traveling to other on-campus facilities, off campus facilities or agencies.
