Under general supervision of the Dean or designated supervisor, provides direction, facilitation, and  visibility to performing arts/community programming and events; coordinates, oversees, and performs  technical work related to the use of all performing arts facilities by students, faculty, and the community;  oversees the day-to-day operation of the box office; and--in collaboration with Creative Arts faculty and  staff--coordinates the use of the performing arts venues and related equipment, especially supporting  lighting and sound needs of performing arts facilities. 

Example of Duties

Essential Functions Essential functions  may include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Facilitates and coordinates all MPC Creative Arts performances and events, as well as campus  and community events utilizing the arts complex (theatre, music, and other facilities as needed) 

  • Working with Creative Arts faculty and staff, oversees the management of maintenance and  improvements to Performing Arts facilities and equipment 

  • Coordinates performing arts/event venue use and prepares and reviews related contracts 

  • Directs the billing and accounting procedures for collection of facilities-use fees and rentals from  public and commercial usage. 

  • Performs and supports basic lighting and sound needs, not including programmed MPC Theatre  Arts performances.  

  • Collaboratively communicates with the Public Information and Marketing Office to support  promotion and marketing of all Creative Arts events 

  • Maintains an active computerized mailing list of patrons, media representatives, and sponsors who  attend or support MPC visual and performing arts events 

  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the box office and temporary/hourly staff for the MPC  performance venues, renters of the MPC performance venues, and other college events as  directed or assigned. Staffs or supervises students at box office window 

  • Provides customer service, processes regular bank deposits, counts box office tickets, computes  box office statements, and performs weekly audits  

  • Processes mail, telephone, and online ticket orders 

  • Coordinates temporary production/technical staff for events outside of college theatre productions 

  • Participates in faculty searches, safety committees, Creative Arts division meetings, production  meetings, and other college committees as deemed necessary  

  • Ensures the safety, security, and integrity of equipment and facilities as they relate to performing  arts (non-Theatre Arts Department) events 

  • Demonstrates an understanding of, sensitivity to, and appreciation for the diverse academic,  ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of students and staff attending and working  on a community college campus, as well as the greater community.  

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Any combination of education and experience which would indicate possession of the required knowledge,  skills, and abilities listed herein. For example, completion of a bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration or  Business Administration, plus 2 or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Demonstrated experience in management of and in operational activities for performing arts,  entertainment, and/or rental facilities. 

  • Knowledge of performing arts facilities, including lighting and/or sound systems    

  • Ability to provide strong excellent arts management skills, including negotiating and scheduling.  

  • Knowledge of Google applications, computer spreadsheet, and word processing programs.  

  • Knowledge of business administration principles and practices; experience in working with  operating budgets. 

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and schedule the work of others.  

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 

  • Outstanding skill in both written and oral communication.  


Physical Effort/Work Environment 

  • Light to moderate physical effort. 

  • Primarily an indoor working environment. 

  • Occasional standing, walking, stooping, bending, and kneeling; periodic lifting up to 50 pounds. 

  • Requires dexterity to operate lighting and sound equipment, as well as standard office equipment. 

Proof of Vaccination
New employees may begin working in their assignments only after the district has received proof that the person is fully vaccinated or an exemption has been approved. 

Desirable Qualifications (Not Required)
  • Experience in management of and in operational activities for performing arts, entertainment,  and/or rental facilities. 
  • 1+ years of experience performing basic lighting and/or sound system services. 
  • Familiarity with CRMs (box office and patron software).  
  • Knowledge of business admin principles and practices; experience working with operating budgets
  • Knowledge of Google applications, MS Office,  computer spreadsheets, database software, and word processing programs. 
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and work effectively with others. 
  • Bachelor's degree in creative arts or related field

Work Schedule / Supplemental Information

Work Schedule
40 hours per week/ 12 months per year 

A typical work week is Monday-Friday; however, this position requires evenings and weekends during productions and certain events.

This position is on-site, not remote work eligible. 


Salary
Starting Salary: $4,953 (Step A) - $5,469 (Step C) per month, depending upon experience and qualifications + GREAT BENEFITS PACKAGE (no additional costs for benefits)

The Performing Arts Complex Coordinator will manage, support, and prioritize the use of performing arts facilities for MPC and non-MPC productions and events. These events include, but are not limited to, theatrical productions, musical performances, non-performing arts college ceremonies and some community events.
