Job Description:
The School for Graduate Studies (SGS) at SUNY Empire seeks an Assistant Professor of Accounting. The successful candidate will have expertise in accounting and will teach, develop curriculum, and mentor/advise students in this new online program. Central to the faculty role is helping adult learners from diverse cultural backgrounds design and complete degrees that meet their personal and professional goals. SUNY Empire faculty provide individualized advising from entry through graduation to students in their overall academic program. The successful candidate will engage in collaborative research, advise students, and work to help students create their capstone project. Maintenance of an active research agenda and service to the university are also expected.
A highly distributed organization, SUNY Empire makes extensive use of technological applications for communication, teaching and learning, and administrative purposes. Working in cooperation with local and statewide faculty and staff, the successful candidate will provide high-quality educational services to students, engage in an active scholarly agenda, participate in university governance, and enhance the university's reputation within the community.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or other terminal degree in accounting or a related field (by the time of appointment),
- Demonstrated experience in accounting such as teaching, research, and working in industry,
- Demonstrated potential for scholarly accomplishments,
- Demonstrated commitment to and/or excellence in teaching,
- Demonstrated potential for effective integration of technology into instruction, and
- Ability and commitment to communicate and work effectively with students, staff, and faculty in a culturally diverse environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Accounting certificate such as CPA, CMA, and CA,
- Industry experience,
- Experience with academic program development,
- Knowledge of New York State CPA licensure requirements,
- Experience teaching and advising graduate students.
Special Information:
- Occasional travel will be required to fulfill university commitments.
- Office hours will vary to accommodate student needs.
- Some evening and/or weekend engagement with students is required.
- SUNY Empire provides faculty with a flexible work environment to meet the needs of our mostly distance learners. The successful candidate can be located at one of our sites throughout the state, including Selden, Saratoga Springs, or Rochester, with robust telecommuting available.

Rank/Salary: Tenure-track, Assistant Professor, 12-month appointment, salary commensurate with experience.
