OVERVIEW OF CCA 
 
The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a dynamic institution that is committed to serving its diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusion. CCA is a public, two-year community college serving Aurora and east metro Denver and has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education.  
 
CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students. 65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills. The college centers our Inclusive Excellence work and applies an equity lens to everything we do.

POSITION SUMMARY:               

The Assistant Director of Recruitment and Orientation is a key member of the Center for Recruitment and Orientation and will have the primary responsibility to assist the Director of Recruitment and Orientation by demonstrating originality, initiative, and ingenuity in the creation, implementation, and assessment of recruitment and new student orientation.

The Assistant Director is responsible for the coordination and execution of the Community College of Aurora’s New Student Orientation and onboarding, Parent/Family Orientation, Online Orientation, Re-admit Orientation and Transfer Orientation.  This position also recruits, selects, trains, and supervises the Welcome Center Coordinators, Welcome Center Student Assistants, and Student Ambassadors. 

The Assistant Director is also responsible for all high school recruiting initiatives including campus tours, fox visit days, early awareness programs for middle school students, and outreach to area high schools including relationships with guidance counselors, teachers and administrators.  

Must be able to work evenings and weekends.   


Orientation Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assume primary responsibility for short and long-term strategic planning, implementation, administration, and evaluation of New Student Orientation.
  • Create and Implement orientation programs that engage, connect and are tailored to meet the needs of specific populations, including new first-time students, transfer students, readmits, traditional and non-traditional students, parents, families and online students.
  • Provide effective communication alerting students of orientation reminders and expectations.
  • Maintain and create content for the online orientation program, updating items as needed.
  • Oversee the development of orientation themes and graphics, produce orientation mailings, and coordinate communication with parents, new students, and orientation personnel
  • Work closely with the Director to communicate and to coordinate with collegiate units and service areas to determine orientation schedule and logistics
  • Budget Management: Work with the Director of Recruitment and Orientation to develop and implement an orientation budget
  • Provide Supervision of Student Ambassadors that includes selecting, training, and providing daily staffing and supervision.
  • Evaluate and assess orientation programs to determine effectiveness. This includes gathering data, tracking statistics, identifying goals and writing reports.
 
Recruitment Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruitment of all student types and identities to continue to provide access to higher education and grow a student population that is inclusive of all identity types.
  • CCA is currently designated a Hispanic Serving Institution and must maintain their 25% Hispanic/Latinx enrollment. This position is critical to continue to recruit to meet this enrollment goal.
  • Oversee high school recruiting initiatives with in-district high schools, including regular visits and attendance at various high school events and fairs 
  • Represent Recruitment and Orientation at all recruiting events and activities
  • Provide information to prospects, applicants, students, and families via telephone, email, various online platforms, social media, website, walk-in visits and other strategies.
  • Plan and coordinate campus and district events such as priority enrollment programs, college visitations and tours, business and industry visits, and other activities as needed
  • Develop and deliver presentations before groups of varying sizes both on and off campus
  • Assist in the preparation of reports indicating enrollment trends and assessing recruitment efforts
  • Under the direction of the Director, assist in developing and implementing district-wide, campus based, and program specific marketing and recruitment strategies
  • Use technology, and various online platforms and social media to meet recruitment goals
  • Assist with the development of enrollment marketing publications and communications in collaboration with the Communications department
  • Ensure the provision of quality customer service and care to prospective students
  • Work closely with the Director to create a new student onboarding process
  • Model best practices for inclusion, equity and diversity
  • Serve in the place of the director in their absence

  • Bachelor’s degree in higher education or related field
  • Professional experience in enrollment management, new student orientation, or student affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
  • Experience conducting presentations or workshops
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Experience using online platforms and various social media outlets for communication
  • The ability to travel regularly and to load and transport admissions material, displays and other recruiting equipment.
  • Evening and weekend hours required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in higher education or related field
  • Proficiency in Spanish (primarily verbal).
  • Experience recruiting diverse student populations and meeting the enrollment goals at a higher education institution.
  • Experience and knowledge of developing and implementing an online orientation program 
  • A strong understanding of the high school recruitment landscape, demographic trends, and pressing issues in the national and international admissions dialogue.
  • Experience coordinating programs and related campus activities.
  • Professional experience in New Student Orientation and/or Admissions/Recruitment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively in an environment requiring a high level of discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to set priorities and demonstrate initiative.
  • Experience supervising professional staff  


Salary Range:  Anticipated starting salary range: $64.980.00-$65,000.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
