Position Summary

The Librarian is responsible for providing reference service to students, faculty, staff, and the community and for assisting in the overall organization, services, and maintenance for Central Alabama Community College library environment and resources.

Applicant must be willing to travel to all college locations.  The chosen applicant will work both campuses as determined by the Dean.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Central Alabama Community College.
  2. Provide reference service to students, faculty and staff, and community.
  3. Supervise and provide training for the library staff and evaluate the library staff.
  4. Administer the scheduling and organization of work within the library and establish, direct and carry out the library policies of the college.
  5. Supervise appropriate record keeping and completion of all reports concerning the libraries.
  6. Maintain inventory records for library services and annually assist with reconciling of library records.
  7. Monitor the planning, budgeting and expenditures of funds allocated for library services.
  8. Maintain library standards for SACSCOC and the American Library Association.
  9. Process interlibrary loans.
  10. Work with faculty in compiling recommended materials: responsible for the materials selection policy of the libraries; ensuring that all library holdings support all facets of the academic, transitional education and technical programs as the budget allows.
  11. Procure reciprocal library agreements.
  12. Conduct library orientation sessions for students and faculty for the orientation course, pre-college orientation, and specific class/program orientation sessions.
  13. Develop information literacy program college-wide.
  14. Maintain operational knowledge of current and future library technology.
  15. Work with other library staff and faculty from throughout the College to engage the college community in the library through invited speakers, programs, and events.
  16. Build relationships with area public libraries.
  17. Work with other library staff and faculty from throughout the College to provide relevant library services in a changing educational environment.
  18. Prepare catalog copy covering library procedures and regulations.
  19. Serve on campus committees; participate in training workshops.
  20. Represent the College to the community in a professional and positive manner.
  21. Assist with library publications, including the library web pages and Library Manual.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned as pertain to the position.

Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in library science or related field from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  2. Knowledge of the Alabama Virtual Library and other on-line resources is required.
  3. Three years’ library experience is required.
  4. Ability to travel between campuses is required.
  5. Three years’ work experience at the college level is preferred.
  6. Possess credentials to teach developmental education preferred.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.  Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control.   The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.  The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.  The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
