South Arkansas College is accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, Career Coach for the El Dorado School District. This position will report to the dean of Student Support Services at SouthArk and is responsible for providing college and career guidance to students and families in Union County.

This grant-funded position will be stationed at the school district and will work with students in the middle and high schools. While the services of the identified Career Coach will be available to all students, the Career Coach will specifically target students who are considered high priority as determined by the program.  The Career Coach will encourage students to aspire to postsecondary education, workforce training and/or apprenticeships as the means to a career that will afford economic self-sufficiency.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Meeting the objectives set forth by the Arkansas College and Career Coach Program
  • Providing early outreach to students and their parents about postsecondary education including information on careers, career pathways, and educational requirements
  • Providing interest inventories and skills assessments to assist individuals in making informed career decisions
  • Facilitating the development of individual career plans and portfolios
  • Connecting students to academic and career enrichment activities such as study groups, tutoring, workshops, bridge programs, job shadowing, mentoring, and internships
  • Connecting high school students to early college programs, Advanced Placement classes, and academic and career and technical education (CTE) and concurrent-credit enrollment
  • Providing a continuum of career guidance to ease the transition of students from middle school to high school to postsecondary education or training and ultimately to the workplace
  • Maintaining accurate daily records on all services and programs provided to students
  • Submitting monthly and yearly reports as required
  • Providing a calendar of upcoming events and activities to College and school administrators including changes to schedule and calendars
  • Working with business/industry partners to identify career opportunities within the state and region

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, counseling, social work or related field. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills are a must. Ability to utilize technology is required. Candidate must hold a Career Development Facilitator (CDF) Credential. If the desired individual does not hold a CDF credential, they may be employed under condition of obtaining certification within a year of employment. Some travel is required.
