Primary Function

Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a contractual instructor to work 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday (six hours of instruction and one hour of planning per day) at the Wicomico County Detention Center. The GED® test preparation instructor will teach science, math and language arts to adult education learners and prepare students to take the official GED® test. 

Essential Duties

The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.

  • Teaches the following with an emphasis on reasoning and problem solving:
    • All levels of basic math
    • Algebra I and II
    • Advanced geometry
    • Science
    • Language arts, including reading and writing
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals established for the program
  • Administers standardized tests
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students
  • Performs other duties as assigned
 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of teaching experience
  • Excellent organizational, record-keeping and human relations skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must pass a criminal background check at the Wicomico County Detention Center
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching adults

Supplemental Information

This is a temporary, contractual position. This position does not include any benefits other than the option to purchase subsidized employee-only coverage in the college's standard medical plan, which the employee must elect when first eligible, and must pay the employee portion of the premium to remain enrolled.
