Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The non-tenured faculty works closely with the BASORGL director to deliver upper-level courses for the Organizational Leadership program.  Courses will be delivered in hybrid and in competency-based education using departmental approved course templates.  Faculty will provide instruction, oversee internships, monitor teaching/learning effectiveness, and assist in advising and retention activities as needed. Faculty will meet with director and academic coach on a weekly basis to provide student updates and recommendations for coaching. Employees must reside in the Laredo area or be able to commute to campus daily. The faculty schedule will be a combination of on-campus teaching -related duties, online/hybrid teaching, and coaching in the evenings.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Adheres to tenants of competency-based education, including:              

  1. Grades student tasks within 48-72 hours, including weekends.
  2. Provides feedback within 48-72 hours of task submissions and provides resources to address gaps in student learning.
  3. Develops individual learning plan for each student that is updated on a weekly basis.
  4. Meets with academic coach/program director on a weekly basis to update student progress.
  5. Proactively monitors student academic progress and intervenes with "at risk " students. 
  6. Conducts and/or oversees reflection meetings with between mini-semesters to discuss progress through courses, update on final grades, and registration for next term.
  7. Meet in zoom for synchronous instruction and other meetings with students as needed.
  8. Is available to students in the days, evenings and weekends as needed.
  9. Makes recommendations for student standing within the program, recommends dismissal, sanctions, and accommodations as needed.

Other Duties

  1. Assists in the development of projects such as curriculum development and internships.
  2. Conducts site visits to evaluate students participating in internships. 
  3. Assists program director in recruitment, orientation, and advisement activities.
  4. Participates in the IE assessment process.
  5. Assists with academic coaching and advising.
  6. Attends professional development trainings on competency based and online/hybrid learning as assigned. 
  7. Ability to teach face to face and online/hybrid, completing all required trainings and satisfying all Quality Matters standards. 
  8. Prepare and, on the first day of class, distribute departmental syllabus which inform students about course requirements, grading requirements, testing assignments, absence policy, and other pertinent information for each course assigned.
  9. Provide a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
  10. Encourage the use of support services by students.   Collaborate with support services staff to ensure that appropriate information is being shared and discussed.
  11. Follow procedures related to the Office of the Registrar and Admissions Office, including grade reports and deadlines, attendance record reports, withdrawal deadlines, mid-semester progress reports, and the like.
  12. Distribute student evaluation forms and/or surveys on a timely basis.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • An earned Doctorate or Master's degree in Organizational Leadership, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in organizational leadership.
  • Graduate coursework hours must be aligned with course learning outcomes that instructor will be teaching.
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level and familiar with online and/or hybrid teaching experience; Industry and/or research in the area of leadership.

Preferred:

  • An earned doctorate in Organizational Leadership or Educational Leadership from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of online/hybrid  teaching experience
  • Experience teaching in competency-based education modalities 
  • Experience teaching Organizational Leadership or related courses
  • Experience working with internship programs.
  • Experience in private, public, or educational leadership positions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of online technology such as Learning management systems, Zoom, etc.
  • Extremely proficient in excel and in analyzing data 
  • Time and project management skills
  • Ability to work in a team

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
