Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a Professional in Residence faculty position in Strategic Management! The Professional in Residence teaches undergraduate & graduate courses in strategic management topics such as strategic management, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, management consulting, managing joint ventures, global strategy, mergers & acquisitions, market introduction strategies, and other topics as assigned by the Department Chair using experiential education methods. Provides service, including community outreach and cooperation with local businesses to facilitate experiential learning and community engagement. Serves on department committees related to the position as assigned by the Department Chair.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Teaches undergraduate, graduate, and executive courses in strategic management topics such as strategic management, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, management consulting, managing joint ventures, global strategy, mergers & acquisitions, market introduction strategies, and other topics as assigned by the Department Chair using experiential education methods. As a part of the experiential educational methods, recruits, selects, facilitates, assigns, the timeline of and the deliverables of various real-world projects from the business community, the nonprofit community, and other organizations. 
  • Undergraduate and graduate students will be coached, mentored, evaluated, and guided so that deliverables to client organizations represent cutting-edge solutions to their needs. 
  • Provides service, including community outreach and cooperation with local businesses to facilitate experiential learning and community engagement with application or effect on undergraduate, graduate, and executive education. erves on department committees related to the position as assigned by the Department Chair. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a field of study directly related to the summary of duties plus professional experience related to the program or discipline. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in Business Administration or a closely related field is required.  Preference will be given to candidates with 5 years of consulting industry experience (in responsible charge of teams). Successful candidates should have academic or organizational teaching experience at high content areas.   Preference will be given to applicants with a well-developed background (or strong aspirations to develop a teaching record) in experiential education.  Evidence of well-developed, collegial and collaborative communication skills and commitment to service  are required.  Evidence of market share / program-building is preferred.  Experience in online teaching is beneficial. 

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current national and international ways of linking value-added chains for production, financial, and R&D purposes to formulate and implement global and competitive strategy. 
  • Knowledge of the macro (between organizational units) and micro (within organizational units) ways strategy is formulated (the theories) and implemented (the acumen or managerial actions). 
  • Knowledge regarding the factors affecting the consultant and client relationship in domestic and global settings. 
  • Skilled in the integration of how to connect current theories of strategic management formulation and implementation with core business principles and practices in live business consulting settings. 
  • Skilled at finding, vetting, closing on, assessing the timeline for, and mentoring more junior associates through consulting projects as well as preparing for and managing the deliverables of those projects. 
  • Evidence of well-developed, collegial, and collaborative communication skills. 
  • Ability to access, analyze, and use current theory and practice to dynamically inform lecture, dialectic, case-method, and simulations to teach strategy formulation and implementation as well as to develop business acumen in undergraduate and graduate students. 
  • Ability to integrate in other business core course concepts (especially finance, operations, marketing, and management), cultivate mentors for and facilitate real-life graduate and undergraduate student consulting projects aligned with firms from UVU's regional and growing national and international fields of practice.
