Job Description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position at Columbia University to conduct research with the International Axion Observatory (IAXO) program.

IAXO is the leading next-generation axion helioscope, designed to search for axions from the Sun that are reconverted into X-ray photons via a strong laboratory magnetic field. BabyIAXO, a preliminary experiment, will advance technology for all IAXO subsystems at relevant scale while also offering novel physics reach and discovery potential.

We are seeking a talented applicant to take a leading role in construction of the core X-ray optic for BabyIAXO, commissioning, and preparation for data analysis. Ideal candidates will have experience with instrumentation, as well as astro/particle physics simulation and data analysis tools.

Deadline: Review of applications will begin on November 1, but applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate is found.

Start date: The anticipated start date is June 2024, but earlier or later start-dates may be possible.

Requirements: The successful applicant must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related discipline by the arranged start date. The initial appointment will be for one year, with an anticipated renewal for up to three years.

Application: Applicants should send a cover letter, CV, and statement of research interests (2-3 pages) to the email below. Applicants should also arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent to this address:
