SUMMARY

BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE KBTC Financial Specialist serves as a support liaison between KBTC and college Finance activities by ensuring accurate financial records.  Position utilizes college reports, the community and technical colleges’ integrated and automated systems, CTC Link and software as utilized by KBTC Finance.
 
Incumbent will participate collaboratively and professionally with staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college, by supporting the departmental needs related to KBTC Finance and KBTC Association. This position supports the guiding expectations of a college embodied, public television station with established policies and procedures.

Please Note: Full potential salary for this position is listed. Starting salary is $24.48 to $28.42 depending on experience.

Open PTE positions will be open to all permanent bargaining unit members at Bates for a minimum period of five (5) days from posting prior to being offered to non-union members or outside applicants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER DUTIES

Essential Duties

  • Download and compile college financial reports for KBTC in CTC Link.  This is to include both revenue and expense details, excluding payroll data, as required for KBTC Finance activities and reporting purposes.
  • Review periodic reports for accuracy and maintain balances of blanket purchase orders as directed
  • Ensure timely and accurate tracking of transactions with contracts and customer accounts
  •  Respond to questions from internal and external customers as assigned
  • Processes daily deposits and provide secondary processing validations
  • Research charges and/or payments, identify appropriate programs and codes for review
  • Work with KBTC Finance and various college departments as assigned to ensure accuracy of financial information and continuity 
  • Enter accounts receivable and payable data for tracking purposes with departmental activities and reports
  • Assist in monitoring accounts and prepare invoices, statements and past due notices as assigned for contracts and agreements 
  • Compile routine documentation for the station’s annual, independent audit on a regular basis. Compile documentation for compliance requirements and maintain department records and files.  
  • Review in-kind gifts against established processes and compliance requirements
  • Ensure processing of purchase requisitions, payment vouchers, travel activities and other financial documents as needed
  • Responsible for proofreading correspondence, reports and proposals as directed
  • Provide financial support by tracking revenue and expenditures in various logs.  Assist in researching for responding to questions regarding accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Provide support as assigned with financial activities of the KBTC Association
 
Non-Essential/Other Functions 
  • Accountable for keeping personal development up to date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.  
  • Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two-year (Associates) degree in accounting/finance or completion of technical accounting program, and one-year experience with financial support in an office setting, including data entry and processing of financial information, OR
  • A High School Diploma/GED, and three experience with financial support in an office setting, including data entry and processing of financial information.
Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources Office for comparability.        
 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience with financial activities dealing with accounting practices and support management
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of English grammar and financial terminology
  • Computer use including specialized college software systems, CTC Link and Microsoft Office Suite

Faculty and Exempt Positions

SBRP (TIAA) is a defined contribution plan with the following contribution rates:

Employee and employer contributions to applicable retirement plans are mandatory. The amount of the deduction and contribution are dependent upon the retirement plan chosen and may vary by current contribution rates in effect.

Term Life Insurance
Bates provides $35,000 basic life insurance for death from any cause and $5,000 basic accidental death and dismemberment at no cost to the employee. Employees can enroll in additional low cost life insurance for themselves and dependents.

Long Term Disability Insurance (LTD)
Bates provides a basic LTD insurance plan at no cost to employees. The basic plan pays a maximum of
$240 per month after 90 days of total disability. The optional LTD plan pays 60% of the first $10,000 of monthly salary, reduced by any deductible income such as social security or retirement benefits.
Employee cost is dependent upon benefit waiting period chosen.

Leaves and Holidays
Vacation
Eligible exempt and classified employees accrue annual leave at rates determined by their employee status, ranging from 7 to 16 hours per month when eligible.

Sick Leave
Eligible classified, faculty, and exempt staff accrue sick leave monthly. Employees represented by a bargaining unit should refer to their negotiated agreement for sick leave rules and accrual rates.
