Position Overview
Essential Job Duties | The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to perform a primary role in microbial genome assemblies and comparative genomic studies from bacterial samples isolated in North Carolina field trials. Biological samples will require to organized and DNA will need to be extracted. Specific projects will include, disease identification, pathogen isolation, strain characterization, and disease rating of vegetable variety trails in greenhouse and field settings, as well as correlating this data with bacterial genotypic diversity. In addition to leading and conducting research, the incumbent will have a lead role in developing and disseminating teaching and extension material as it pertains to the management of bacterial diseases of vegetables. The incumbent will also have roles in training undergraduate and graduate researchers in the laboratory of Dr. Huerta; recording and analyzing data, preparing scientific manuscripts; and communicating research findings at local and national scientific conferences and grower meetings.The incumbent will be required to drive departmental trucks research fields and greenhouse trials. Additionally, they will work with graduate and undergraduate students. The position is based in Raleigh, NC but will require driving to research field. |
