JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Dr. Kimberly Jacob Arriola is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to work on a recently funded NIH study that seeks to eliminate racial disparities in chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression, treatment, and care among patients within Emory Healthcare. This project is part of a national consortium that is intervening on the role of structural racism in driving racial disparities in CKD. We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow that would take the lead on all aspects of cleaning, managing, and analyzing quantitative data. This includes the administrative data extracted from electronic medical records as well as survey data collected from patients and providers. In addition to analyzing quantitative data and publishing papers as part of the national consortium, the post-doctoral fellow may have opportunities to contribute to the process evaluation aim, which involves the collection and analysis of qualitative data. 

Dr. Arriola is Dean of the Laney Graduate School of Emory University but maintains a faculty appointment in the Department of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences in the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University. This department offers a rich environment for training and collaborative work, hosting regular department events and seminars that foster community among students, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and staff and provide opportunities for continued learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A PhD plus experience or MPH in Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences; Epidemiology; or other relevant field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster a good working relationship with others on the team and collaborators.
• Expertise in data cleaning, management and analysis using SAS or SPSS.
• Experience conceptualizing and writing scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Familiarity with the research literature on racial disparities in transplantation
  
  

Additional Job Details:

The post-doctoral fellow will be under the mentorship of Dr. Kimberly Jacob Arriola and will have the opportunity to collaborate with leaders in the field. The position will be based at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The initial appointment is for two-years, and renewal is anticipated if performance is satisfactory and funds remain available.
