SUMMARY:  
The instructor/faculty member is responsible for directing respective coursework, including overseeing and coordination of the program(s) to assure the presences of essential curricular components, appropriate content and pedagogy, and discipline currency. Instructors will focus on student success and retention while providing engaging and college-level coursework. 

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
 
Teaching:
 Prepare and teach courses to include:
 • Developing and employing learner centered lesson plans and utilizing instructional materials for different learning styles
 • Incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments
 • Creating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
 • Preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate
 • Updating and revising curriculum to maintain currency 
 • Developing new courses as needed to support the instructional mission
 • Participating in the development and review of course and program/general education outcomes as appropriate
 • Developing, conducting and documenting appropriate assessment of student learning in outcomes courses and programs/general education as appropriate
 
Professional Development:
 Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:
 • Participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field or current credentials/licensures as required by program or accreditation
Participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies
 
Administration:
 Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include:
 • Maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment
 • Providing for facilities security, equipment and instructional materials, and maintaining safe working conditions
 • Maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, AVISO, Moodle)
 • Complying with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations
 
Student Support:
 Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:
 • Participating with recruiting activities
 • Promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
 • Referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May include oversight of adjunct faculty/lab assistants

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Individual must have a master’s degree in biology.  Additional 18 graduate hours in chemistry is ideal.  Successful teaching experience in the fields of biology and/or chemistry is required. Previous community college experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, instructors, students, and the public. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.  
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS  
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
 
 
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT  
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment in usually moderate. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

  • Accrual rates depend on years of service and accrued monthly
