Salary Placement and Work Hours: This is a 9-month position, placed on the D-1 Salary Schedule with a pay range of $45,676-$92,513, depending upon degree and applicable work experience, at the President's discretion. The work week is Monday through Friday, and hours worked will be a minimum of 35 per week. An additional summer appointment period is possible, with a pay range of $14,102-$28,612.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions*: Instructor must teach computer information sciences classes in both traditional and distance education formats; assess student performance; advise students; sponsor student organizations; participate in college and departmental committee work; submit reports on attendance and grades as required; and assist in registration. The employee must comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:  

  1. Teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabi and schedule of classes
  2. Organize, instruct, and supervise students as assigned
  3. Assist students with obtaining industry certifications as directed by college administrators
  4. Prepare course syllabi and objectives in conjunction with departmental guidelines
  5. Participate in selection of texts and teaching materials for courses
  6. Serve as academic advisor for students as assigned, including utilizing advising software
  7. Participate in all student registration periods and work closely with students to adjust schedules per the college drop/add process
  8. Recommend appropriate library resources, instructional equipment, and curriculum improvements as necessary to maintain an effective program
  9. Assist in the development, evaluation, and revision of computer science curricula to insure maximum student competency
  10. Teach assigned courses at the Kevin Dukes Career and Innovation Academy or other location 
  11. Serve as liaison between Northeast Alabama Community College and the Kevin Dukes Innovation Academy cybersecurity program
  12. Coordinate Google IT Professional Support Certificate training with area data centers
  13. Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the College
  14. Maintain appropriate work hours as outlined in State and College policies 
  15. Attend all faculty meetings and convocations
  16. Participate in the College’s planning process
  17. Serve on institutional committees
  18. Maintain currency of professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education
  19. Recruit students for the program and College at large
  20. Agree to teach day and evening classes, on and/or off-campus, and distance education classes
  21. Have knowledge of and commitment to the philosophy and objectives of Northeast Alabama Community College
  22. Represent the College and its philosophy to prospective students and to others in the community

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:          

  1. Demonstrated expertise in the subject area through work experience and education is required
  2. Competency in Windows and Linux file and operating systems is required
  3. Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom is preferred
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills
Minimum Required Education, Training, and/or Experience:            
  1. Required Education:
     (A) Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in computer science from an accredited institution;
     (B) Master’s degree in computer science from an accredited institution; or
     (C) Alternative credentialing with demonstrated competency to teach computer science through appropriately related work experiences in the field; nationally- or state-recognized professional licensure and certifications related to computer science; honors and awards; continuing professional development; and/or continuous documented excellence in teaching
  2. Willingness to take graduate courses, obtain certificates, or acquire work experience in order to be credentialed to teach college courses in specific areas important to the computer science program, if requested by the President, is required  
  3. Certificates in Google IT Professional Support; cybersecurity; digital marking and e-commerce; project management; UX Design Certificate; etc. are preferred
  4. Experience or affiliation with a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education is preferred
  5. Experience in teaching computer science courses at the community college level is preferred

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.  Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control.   The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.  The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.  The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
