Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Executive Director this position assists/supports faculty/PI with the management of an assigned portfolio of grants/contract accounts. The incumbent has knowledge and understanding of the post award life cycle of grants to include subawards, expense tracking/monitoring, reporting, and closeout. The Financial Coordinator provides start to finish oversight/maintenance of department USM and UMCP Foundation and processes fellowship stipend and tuition payments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in accounting, finance or business management.

Experience:
3-5 years of administrative experience with increasing responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain financials and maintain compliance documentation for restricted funds.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferences:
Preferences:
  • Experience in higher education is preferred, as is knowledge of OMB’s Uniform Guidance.
  • Knowledge of University of Maryland policies and procedures and how they relate to grant accounting, travel, personnel/HR matters, and purchasing.
  • Experience with the University of Maryland’s ARES System including Kuali Financial, Kuali Research as well as Priority/BA4.
  • Experience with the University of Maryland’s Travel Card and Purchasing Card Management systems.
Additional Certifications:
Preferred:
Completion of the Office of Research Administration’s Certificate Program (Basic and Advanced).
