Our Opportunity



South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks student Work-Study applicants for the position of Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 1 in Natural & Applied Sciences.

Educational Benefit: The student will have opportunities to use and develop their programming and mathematical skills, and to sharpen their proficiency in using spreadsheets.

Schedule:  Upon hiring, the successful applicant(s) will have the opportunity to work with division faculty and staff to prepare a schedule to minimize disruption of their class schedule.

What You'll Do

•Provide clerical support to the physics department and the Natural & Applied Sciences division as a whole: paper and electronic filing, correspondence.

•Use coding skills (Javascript/PHP) to develop exercises and assignments in MyOpenMathLab for use in physics and mathematics courses, to evaluate relevant calculations including correct significant figures and units (e.g. formatting exercises to read 2.80 vs 2.8 as appropriate), and units in student-submitted work.

• Provide general instructional support to the Science division, e.g. assisting with closed captioning of video lectures, assisting with lab setup and breakdown.

•Other duties as assigned


Qualifications You Possess

Required qualifications:
 
• Computer programming proficiency
• Familiarity with logical argument
 
Desired qualification:

• Intermediate to advanced mathematics and physics skills

     If selected for an interview bring your completed Work Study Authorization form with you to the interview.

Hourly non-permanent employees accrue vacation, sick, personal holiday, personal leave, and holiday credit.  These accruals are pro-rated based off of the hours worked in the prior month for both the vacation and sick monthly. The personal holiday and personal leave types only accrue after 4 months of continuous employment with the college.
