Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The Office of Digital Learning (ODL) team helps support innovation and instruction at Smith through a variety of initiatives and engagement strategies. ODL serves as a strategic partner with Smith faculty and leadership to support high-quality instruction and create innovative learning opportunities for our students. At our core, we create online programs and curricula that challenge students to assess complex business problems and deliver innovative solutions. We support both degree programs and non-degree/certificate (Executive Education) programs. ODL offers quality support, innovative technology, and a full range of instructional design, technology, and media services for Smith’s online programs. This position is a contractual, 6-month term (subject to renewal) for an Instructional Designer to provide course design and development support, consultation in effective online and digital pedagogy, and assistance to faculty and subject matter experts building online programs. The position works collaboratively with faculty and staff to develop courses and online program modules that challenge learners to assess complex business problems and deliver innovative solutions. The successful candidate knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. As a member of a dynamic and highly skilled instructional design team, this individual is primarily charged with solving instructional challenges encountered in the delivery of online and blended learning environments using both synchronous and asynchronous approaches. |
Minimum Qualifications: | Education: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Distance Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Learning and Literacy, Industry experience or Higher Education. An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be substituted (including applicable coursework/training in learning sciences/design). Experience:
