Essential Job Duties
This position requires a highly skilled carpenter, cabinet maker, and plasterer with the ability to work in the repair, installation, and fabrication of various carpentry related functions to include ceilings, floors, doors, frames, glass repair, and hardware necessary for the routine maintenance of university residence halls, apartments, and Greek houses on the NC State campus. It also requires oversight of journey level technicians on a regular basis and the production of drawings, schematics and designs.
Other Responsibilities
The incumbent is regularly exposed to dust, dirt, grease, grime, varied temperatures, and unusual shop conditions.
Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the carpentry trade.
  • Working knowledge of tools and materials used in repairing and constructing wooden articles.
  • Skill in the use of carpenter’s hand tools and woodworking machines.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, or sketches.
  • Ability to make accurate calculations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to perform heavy tasks for considerable periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
